The People You Meet in the Afterlife

It felt like Marco had been here for forever. One tends to lose track in time in the after life.

Marco and the others spent most of the days going to the beach, helping with chores, and enjoying evenings at the Tavern, listening to the stories of those who came before them.

Marco was happy that there was a bookshop. It was more of a library than a book shop, considering you didn't have to pay for anything. It was originally started by Farlan, but Ilse now spent most of the time running it.

"Back again Marco." She said as he strolled in.

"Yeah finished this one last night" he said handing the book back to her.

Marco started skimming the shelves. "It's funny how this place can just add knew books"

"I heard that the Survey Corps are going on an expedition, hoping that Eren kid will get them to Shiganshina" Ilse said.

"Yeah I Thomas and I have been watching. Some new scouting formation. After beating the sh*t outta Eren, Levi took him into his custody"

Ilse let out a snort. "I'm sure that Eren kid probably deserved it"

"I'm glad he did, it saved Eren from the MPs."

"You know Marco I've never trusted those MPs, did you really want to join them." She asked.

Marco put the book back on the shelf. "That was the plan, me and Jean, safety behind the walls"

Ilse gave Marco a sympathetic look. "Jean means a lot to you doesn't he."

Marco nodded silently.

The next day, almost everyone in town was gathered around the "viewing area" to watch the expedition. The horses were ready to go, for the inevitable new arrivals.

Marco was anxious, watching Jean sitting on his horse. He was trying to put on a brave face, but he could see the anxiety in his face.

"Why did he join? What about my death made him make such a foolish decision"

In the land of the living the gates opened.

It didn't take long for flashes to start appearing in the forest, near the beach, and some just appeared in town.

Marcel stood behind Marco. "That's Annie's titan"

Marco looked at the Female Titan, clearly an abnormal. She had blond hair, and was blood thirsty. Marco felt nauseous as she played with the scouts. Twirling one around like a toy.

But she did something that surprised everyone.

Marcel watched in disbelief as Annie pulled back Armin's hood staring at him.

"What's she doing?" He mumbled.

Annie soon charged into the forest of the giant trees.

"Marco...that blond kid, did he have any connection to Annie?"

Marco shook his head. "We were all in the same cadet corps camp but she was kind of a loner, she barely even interacted with Reiner and Bertholdt."

"Probably not to draw suspicion"

The crowd was thinning out as people rode off to find the newly killed scouts.

Eld's heart was racing. He was surprised and a bit annoyed that he had not been informed of Erwin's plan. He was the Vice Captain after all. But it even Levi didn't seem to know. He wasn't use to Levi not having an  order in that situation. Though he wasn't sure if Petra had made the right decision. Maybe Eren's Titan could have helped.
