I was staying after school to practice for the upcoming talent show and to avoid my dad. I searched up my music on the computer and started singing along to it. I started singing:

Hey! Hey! Hey!

I don't like walking around this old and empty house

I heard another voice sing:

So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear

Going along with it, I sang the next part, already figuring out who it was:

The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake

He sang:

It's the house telling you to close your eyes

I continued:

And some days I can't even dress myself

He finished the verse:

It's killing me to see you this way

We sang together:

'Cause though the truth may vary

This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Hey! Hey! Hey!

We sang the next verse like the first one and the actual chorus together. Finally, we got to my favorite part, the break:

You're gone, gone, gone away

I watched you disappear

All that's left is the ghost of you.

Now we're torn, torn, torn apart,

There's nothing we can do

Just let me go we'll meet again soon

Now wait, wait, wait for me

Please hang around

I'll see you when I fall asleep

We sang the rest of the song together. As soon as it finished playing I spoke, "I didn't know you could sing like that Jayden." I turned around seeing him, confirming my suspicions. He gave me a goofy smile and replied, "Well I'm full of surprises and so are you apparently. I didn't know that you could sing that well although I should've known because of your last name." I raised my eyebrow and asked, "Why? What does my last name have to do with my singing abilities?" He answered back, "Don't you know? Cantabile is Italian for sing or singing." I admitted, "I didn't know that. What are you doing here anyways? Or do you just like popping up out of nowhere and surprising me?" He laughed, "No, I'm here because I didn't feel like going home yet. It's not like my parents care anyways." I ask him, "How come you aren't in choir? You're a great singer!" He shrugs, "I just didn't feel like joining it." Suddenly an idea pops into my head, I exclaimed, "Can you please try out for the talent show with me? It would make me feel a lot less nervous at tryouts and we sound great together!" He thinks about it for a couple of seconds before answering back, "Sure, why not." I squeal and he covers his ears. I smack him lightly in the arm before yelling, "Hey, my squeal isn't that loud! Race you to my locker, winner gets ice cream. Bye!" I take off sprinting with him right on my heels after the information sinks into him. He yells, "Hey, that's not fair, you got a head start!" I yell back at him, "Life's not fair! Besides, I really want that ice cream!" I take off going even faster with him chasing after me.

"Unexpected friendships are the best ones."
