It was a very hot day in mid-March and Bible needed to go to his University because his friend, Bas, asked him a favour.
Today, he is helping Bas to move the rest of his things to his new dorm which he got with his boyfriend.
They had been roommates since freshman year but as their third year ended, Bas decided to move in with his boyfriend so they can go through their last year in University together.
"Brooo, thank you for picking me up and bringing my things. If only Job could make it but he needed to prepare for his internship interview tomorrow" Bas exclaimed as he settled himself in the passenger seat of Bible's car.
"For real, on a Saturday? Is that the company that your dad recommended him to?"
"Yes! Apparently, tomorrow is the only day the department head has available before he travels abroad."
"Wow, the connection your dad has, huh?" Bible said as he pulled out of the school parking lot.
"Shut up? My dad has connections, your dad IS the connection. Besides, Job still needs to pass that interview, dad could only pass on his CV for review."
They arrived at their destination which is just a few minutes away from their University. They both carried Bas's things up to their unit and decided to get lunch at the restaurant beside the building. They settled at a far corner table, away from most of the crowd.
"Are you gonna look for another roommate? You know you can accommodate two more, right? That place is huge and you are just wasting the other room as storage."
"You know I don't like too many people around, I need to focus on my thesis and exams," Bible said.
"Then look for people who are addicted to studying as you are. Bro, this is our senior year, it will be too stressful, I'm worried about you being all alone." Bas indeed had a worried look on his face.
Bible silently thought of it, Bas has a point. It isn't much about the rent fee, he can shoulder it, but the fact that a small distraction from time to time could be better at this point of their University life.
"I'll think about it. Anyway, students normally start looking for a place around April so I still have the rest of March to decide." Bible finally replied to Bas.
Their food arrived and they continued chatting about things they have missed about each other from the time Bas moved in with Job.
"By the way bro, have you gotten laid lately?" a sudden question from Bas.
Bible almost spit the food he was currently chewing to Bas's face, instead, he choked a little.
"What the fuck, Bas, could you give a warning first? Also, why do you care?" Bible said in between coughs from the choke.
"Well, I remember last time we talked, you mentioned that you need to at least get laid before the last school year starts, so..."
Bible did remember saying that. To be honest, it had been a while since he last dated and that was not even to his liking. He won't say no if another opportunity knocks, but he probably would just mess it up.
At this point, Bible doesn't think he has enough time for any romantic relationship, he can only offer physical attraction and benefit but that is all of it.
Who would want that? Even those who get involved in friends-with-benefit setups demand too much time. He would need someone who would go for a total no-string-attached, Bible thought.
"I know what you are thinking, bro, I get it. If you don't want to get involved in any relationship, then why don't you try the DCB."
"What the hell is a DCB?" Bible asked Bas, confused.
"Huh?" Bas feigning shock, "You didn't know about it? It's the Dating Council Board. It is a dating site run by some of the students here, it had been in existence since the old times, and got passed on from one senior group to another yearly."
Bible was skeptical because it sounded like an urban legend passed from one generation to another. Also, it didn't help that it was Bas who is telling him.
"Don't look at me like that, bro, I can give you the site if you want to check it out if you don't believe me," Bas said a bit offended.
"Sorry, it is not that I don't believe you...entirely, it just sounds weird that I lasted here for years and never heard of it. How come you do, you have a boyfriend!" Bible explained
"It isn't my fault that all these years you only focus on your books, you know. Job and I knew about it because that is how Nodt met his boyfriend."
Fair enough, Nodt is Job's best friend after all.
"So, it's like Grinder or Tinder?" Bible asked, curious.
"No, no. You won't be creating a profile there but you will need to answer some questionnaire. You know what, here is the link, and just check it out. Read their terms and decide if you want in or not. I knew some students who have tried and so far, good reviews, safe and easy."
They finished their lunch and Bible stayed for a bit to help Bas settle in his unit because Job was still at the local library preparing for his interview. After they were done, Bible went home a bit exhausted.
He showered and had his dinner, then settled in for the night.
It had been a long day but he doesn't feel that sleepy yet.
He was about to get a book to read when he remembered the link that Bas gave him during lunch, for the DCB.
Out of curiosity, he opened the site and read.
He came to a page where he needed to choose to either be "the Host" or "the Guest".
Based on what he had read, he chose the first one and proceeded to answer the questionnaire.
