Zee’s P.O.V (still)
Caleb tried to break the awkward silence around us but kept on failing. If I wanted it to go it would go. He looked frustrated but it’s not like I had a choice. I couldn’t let him know I care about him. He is -was- all that’s stopping me from leaving. I didn’t need anything from him and it was best if he left me alone.
“Look Ree…” He started.
“I’m driving.” I said acidly shooting him a glacier cold glare. It killed me to do it but I had to. I sighed and sped up. Stupid Honda. We made it to Jared’s place ad it was…erm… how do I put it lightly? It was a freaking mansion.
It was huge. There was a swimming pool, a massive balcony and a huge garden. WOW. Everyone was already inside and I did not miss the furious glares they shot Caleb. I sighed. “Knock it of girls. How long till the rents are back Jared?” I asked harshly sounding like the squad leader I am.
“At 8.” He said curtly his eyes saying things he wouldn’t say. He was challenging me. His eyes held this reckless light, like he thought he was above us. I could see why dad wanted him. I also saw the way he looked at Bad luck. It was protective, loving; caring, playful, and most importantly I could see he saw her as some sort of goddess. The way his eyes shone with pride when he made her smile at him or laugh with him. He acted like love sick puppy at times but he was quick to think when she needed him. I was willing to bet my life that he loved every bit of her and was totally whipped.
And the way she moved around him. She always acted like she would carry the weight of the world on her shoulders and it still wouldn’t be enough. At first I tried to help her but it didn’t work…But somehow being with Jared has brought her some peace. I smiled unintentionally when I saw brook nervously peak out from Jared’s shoulder. For the first time since I’ve met her she looked scared and vulnerable. I could tell something was bothering her but I never knew what.
“Zee, when do we leave?” She asked shakily Jared looked at her worriedly before hugging her I didn’t understand why until I heard her sobs.
“As soon as possible and he’s coming with us.” I said answering her question.
“WHAT?!” Caleb roared.
“You’re in danger for associating with me.” I said in my I could care less tone. I shot her a ‘you’ll tell me what’s wrong soon’ look.
“So you do illegal business?” He snapped. It stabbed my heart but I had to keep up being a brat. I was all wrong for him. I sighed.
“Come on.” I said sounding drained and walking down the hallway not checking to see if he was following. Honestly I didn’t care. If he didn’t I could burst into tears and cry my broken heart out… again.
Caleb’s P.O.V
I hate this. Why won’t this feeling go away? Selene was always amazing and I’ll admit I care about her but she never made me feel anywhere close to how Ree ree made me feel. When she left her mother and I were crushed. I loved her as a little sister.
She was innocent, kind, compassionate, even then she was gorgeous, she was perfect and no guy would ever be good enough for her…Including me. She had it all. She may not have noticed it but she had many admirers strange as it seemed she looked amazing in her braces, glasses and round-ish size.
So why did she leave?
I remember her ranting on and on about every girl in the school…especially Selene. I thought she was just upset with her until I met Selene. She looked like a goddess and I loved her at first sight. I couldn’t stand hearing a bad word about Selene after that. Soon we started dating and Ree ree was a little upset but fine with it. I’d occasionally see her look jealously at Selene and me but I knew she was just jealous that she didn’t have what we had.
While I was dating Selene, I made the other guys and girls back off away from Ree ree, I couldn’t lose her. She was happy anyway. I never knew the whole story, I found out a week after she mysteriously left. Her mother threw books and everything she could get her hands on at me screaming she’s left and it’s your entire fault. She banned me from her house and committed suicide a few days later. I lost interest in Selene after a few more weeks but I couldn’t be the one to break her heart.
And 5 years later here she is, happy, good as new - better than she was actually – She lost her puppy fat and grew taller, she didn’t need her braces anymore and she out grew her slight myopia. She looked a lot better than she did 5 years ago. And she acts all high and almighty, like she has no one to worry about and she calls the shots. Didn’t she care about the people she hurt when she left? And she’s proud to be in an illegal business and she just kidnapped me.
So is it really messed up for me to actually be happy she’s here? That she just kidnapped me? That she’s back? That I finally feel alive again?
Probably.
I watched her nervously twirl a lock of her ebony black hair from her no nonsense pony tail around and around with her fingers. It was a nervous habit of hers. I smiled once I realised she was still the same girl I knew.
She sighed and mumbled something that sounded like let’s get this over with. “Long ago daddy got involved with the mafia. That was about fifty years ago. When he was seventeen, he needed protection from the bigger organisations for obvious reasons. So he...erm...knocked our mothers up at bars. If they were girls, he would claim them, never the boys. Only two boys have been claimed but even then they are adopted. They are both players or ex-players you have already met them…Jared and Jarl. The girls are usually trained...spies. Some become medics, guards, mechanics or in charge of technology. Once we're not needed we're sold to the USA government as USA spies. The few who aren't sold off become teachers here. But even then it's only a few dozen. The rest either die or become government property... My sister Iris sent me a warning text that he found us, saw that you knew me and you’ll probably be killed if we let you go home or whatever you do in your non-complicated perfect life" She said irritably.
“So why did you leave?” I snapped back.
“I just told you why he wanted the girls and threatened to kill my mother.” She snapped back and death stared me. It was a lot scarier than it was 5 years ago.
“You never said he threatened to kill your mom! Then why are you here?” I asked. She rolled her eyes and looked at me like I was stupid.
“Who are the girls that came with you?” I asked.
“My sisters.” She said acidly.
“What’s their names?” I asked curiously. If I was going to be with these girls for an indefinite amount of time I might as well get to know them.
“They all hate you enough as it is so it would be better if you don’t know. It may prevent a lot of physical and emotional damage.” She said emotionlessly.
“Yeah, Brook was so scary back there.” I said sarcastically. Wrong move because the next thing I knew I was pinned against the wall.
“Don’t you dare diss my family ever again.” She snarled in my face before she turned away and stalked of. I messed up again. Big time.
