Apples and boys

I feel the apple trees are the only thing that's truly alive in this school.

This month sucked. The teachers are awful, my roommates are awful, and the whole thing is just messed up.

I think I'm not a bad person. If I were, I wouldn't be wearing the pink Ever dress. That means someone thought I am purely Good. That someone was entirely wrong.

I sigh, and I look up at the tree's branches. The tree has green leaves, and it might look like any other, but it feels different. It feels like a human. I pull out my books; I have to study for history. August Sader is a nice professor, but he won't pass a student just because he has a Good soul.

On the other hand, I just found more about the two boys. Like I guessed, they are, indeed, twins, but Rafal is Good, and Rhian is Evil. If you asked me, I would've told you it's the complete opposite. It's just the fact that they both creep me out.

One night, while I was preparing to sleep, I looked at their silver tower and saw two silhouettes inside. At first, I thought it was them, but suddenly, Rafal went in for a kiss, and I realized it's someone else. So, he has a secret relationship, and it is with a boy.

I got some tea, but I wish I had someone to spill it to. Like, for example, I heard Scarlett's sister is here, too, and she's a Never, but she got caught kissing an Everboy in the bathroom, so I might spill it to you, whoever you are.

The other roommate's name is Alejandro, yes, he's a boy, and he used to write to his boyfriend every night. I just thought it's sweet, but sometimes, he cries and says how much he misses Gregor. They broke up on the second week of school. Depressing, I know.

My stepmother sent me a letter this week, and I can remember it perfectly, so I might just reproduce it.

Evangeline Fox,

If you do not come home in the following four days to do the dishes, wash our cat, tidy up the house, clean the floor, wash your sister's clothes, and come meet Harold (I told him I have an ugly daughter and a pretty one, you and Marisol, and, surprisingly, he asks where the pretty one is, when I clearly referred to you as the ugly one) I will personally come and get you.

Take this as a joke. We both miss you, Eva, and Luc is clearly feeling your absence, too.

Your one and only stepmother,

Agnes Tourmaline

I wasn't crying after I received this. You were.

Moving to the present, I look at the kids around me. There's Scarlett, flirting with Alejandro. Oh, and there are the popular kids. Tedros, Agatha, and Sophie. Agatha and Sophie are best friends, one ugly, one pretty, an Ever, a Never, whole mess going around. Sophie is in love with Tedros. Tedros is in love with Agatha. Just stay out of the drama, and you're ok.

I smile and get to studying again. Outside of the school, it's pretty loud, but you are not allowed to stay inside. I hear someone is approaching, but I don't raise my eyes. They'll probably leave me alone.

"Hi, Evangeline!" They yell. It's Donatella, Scarlett's sister. I force myself to keep a straight face. I haven't even talked to her since I'm here. "Am I being too loud? Were you trying to study? I'm so, so sorry! Forgive me. I just have some... problems." She points at the boys behind her. They smirk like wolves around prey. It's not a good thing.

"Hey, Tella," They yell. I want to punch them. "I haven't seen you talking to this one before. She surely seems boring."

"Ye, how 'bout you come and take a walk with us?" Another one approved. Am I boring? No, I'm not. And now, I see witch boy yelled the last sentence. It's Apollo. The crown prince of the North. This really starts to piss me off.

Apollo is a quite tall guy with olive skin. I'd say more about his huge nose and way-too-dark dyed eyebrows, but I'm afraid I might offend his highness. Overall, he's handsome, but just not my tipe. I frown.

I could've sworn the apple tree didn't even have tree buds when I sat next to it, but an apple fell next to me. The perfect weapon. I smirk and throw it at Apollo. It hits him right in the eye.

"You witch, how dare you?" He squeakes, covering his eye with his palm. "Boys, get her."

The boys stop before reaching me. But why?

"Is there any problem, gentlemen?" Tedros asks. I can't really see his face, but, from his blonde, wavy hair, it's him.

"No. I'm sorry." The others look at Apollo, waiting for a signal. "Run, will you?" He whispers to them, loud enough for me to hear.

The boy turns around. It's not Tedros. I don't even know him. He smirks, and his eyes sparkle a bluish shade of silver. Oh, lord, he's beautiful. I feel myself blushing. He smiles.

"I'm Jacks. And you are..." He says, carefully rolling up his sleeve. I realize he isn't wearing a uniform.

"Donatella." She says, shaking his hand. "This is Evangeline, my friend."

"Well, if that's the case, nice to meet you, Evangeline!"
