By the time I reached the house it was night. I couldn't find the address right away. Linzergasse is much bigger and has more houses and streets. The lamplights aided me in my search as the dark night covered me. Second floor, second floor... I scanned the house and noticed a hint of movement. A shadow appeared, looked to be male and like he was talking to someone. I should find a suitable roof. This area was filled with cluttered buildings, it would be easier to make it onto the roof
of the house.I made my way up a roof and leaped to one nearby. It felt different from the roofs I trained with. They were more slanted and more cobbly.
I jumped down the next roof below, my body curled up and rolled onto it. Ow! That hurt a lot... I rubbed my back and continued on leaping and jumping from roof to roof.
I made it to the targeted building, which was much shorter from afar. Since the target is on the second floor, I'll have to climb down.
I stood at the edge and lowered my foot on a balcony railing. My legs wobbled, the balcony was too thin to be considered safe or reliable. I steadied myself and swung to the next balcony.
I continued on doing this until I hit the second floor. The building only had five floors, but it felt like an eternity. My heart pattered behind my footsteps, sweat poured down my forehead. What if I get caught? I shook my head, there's no time for doubts! Focus!
I pulled my hood up and tucked my hair back in my hood. I searched for that small key Axel handed me, and slid it in the keyhole. I turned the key to the right. The door clicked. I walked inside and let the door close behind me. Now I just have to find... What was it that I have to find? I didn't ask... It can be anything! What would a client want, anyway? It has to be something that was dear to him... Ransom... money, jewels!
I opened the drawers and started searching through his clothes. Frustrated, I couldn't see a thing I threw all the clothes out. I went to the next drawer and didn't find anything in there either. I ransacked his file littered desk. Maybe a file? That can't be it right? I looked through the entire room and wasn't able to find anything of value! Is this the right place? Thump! Oh no, is he back already? Dammit! Thump, thump. He's climbing up the stairs! I ran to the doors and tugged. The doors didn't budge! No no no! I should've kept them open how foolish of me! I hurriedly took out the key and twisted it through. I barged through the doors and climbed on the railing. A man burst through the door.
"Stop right there!" My stomach dropped. I jumped off the railing and barely made it to the roof below. I held on to the side using my arms to pull me up. I panted heavily and took off. "The thief is up here!" His voice boomed behind me! He's behind me! No, no no! This is all going wrong! I can't be caught! I leaped to the next building and ran even faster. Adrenaline pumping through me, willing me to run. I can't be caught; I can't be caught!
Polizei were at the bottom waiting for me. I need to lose the guy up here. I jumped down another roof this time I didn't land. I held onto the side and shimmied down the building. The target landed after looking around for me. I held my breath and kept still; he was sharp. Who is this guy? Who chases after a thief? My arms started to strain, I don't think I can hold on any longer.
A window rolled up, I closed my eyes and waited for the worst. Soon as they see me, I'm as good as dead. Axel appeared and waved me over. I waited for his footsteps to sound distant, then took my chance. I dropped down, caught the railing, and swung myself to the window. I squeezed inside and met all faces of the guild. Axel closed the window and closed the curtains.
"You did it, rookie!"
"Axel? Pant, what are you? Pant, guys doing here?"
Connie shrugged. "I guess you're not as bad as we thought. I honestly didn't think she would survive this long."
