"So how much did you get?" I asked. Suddenly, I felt dazed and lightheaded. "With your help, plenty."
"For you or for me?"
"Both."
"Awooo!"
"Is he calling them back?"
"Yes, he's probably coming up with a new strategy. Now that he knows, you can use magic well." It did seem like the wolves were coming after me more than Xavier. Which, of course, naturally... I used more of my power against them. The more they came at me, the stronger I became; I was able to discover new abilities. Xavier is still transitioning, so he's more bitter than usual.
One night, I woke in a cold sweat panting out of breath. My body was tingling and on fire! I wailed and cried as the tingling sensations heightened. Electric currents zapped all over my body, each shock was so powerful it made my body jolt upward.
Xavier held me down as much as possible and tried to calm me down.
My head moved frantically as pain erupted in me, he looked terrified and uncertain. He did not know what was going on and neither did I. The next shock of pain was in my eyes! They pulsated and burned so much as did the rest of my body. Soon the screams stopped and the wailing. I was sweating and out of breath, too tired to scream or cry. My eyelids were heavy and my vision was blurry.
I awoke, receiving a sense of energy and strength? I held my chest. I no longer felt the grimacing pain. I slid out the cavern, meeting a terrified Xavier.
"What... the hell was that?"
"I do not know."
"You were surrounded by magic, swirls of magic and... your eyes were glowing and morphing into colors..." That explains his expression... "How are you? Now?"
"I feel... refreshed and better? Weirdly..." He looked taken aback by that.
"I would think you would be exhausted since by the time you closed your eyes, it was sunrise." Was it really that long? I couldn't even notion the idea of night and day.
I stood up straight, which I haven't done in a while. Have I healed already? We walked ahead, gathering berries and water.
I took my chance and sipped water from the lake with my hands. I was taken aback by my reflection. I looked older than I remembered? My face was more fuller and rounder? A bird flew to a nearby tree.
I stood up and kept my sights locked on it, I let out a bit of magic. Just to see how much it will take. I've learned now that you can't have all your magic unleashed, or else your physical energy will drain and you will get light-headed. Instead of using a branch to hit something, I tried my luck using my force of magic.
Without my knowing, my hand moves on its own and I wave one finger. The bird collides against the tree, falling to the ground. I flinched back in shock, that took nothing? Maybe it has to do with the size? But no, I couldn't even aim right by envisioning it. But this time all I had to do was play out the scenario and it... happened? I ran over to find the bird and brought it back to Xavier. "That's it?"
"No, you don't understand, I was able to throw it against the tree without losing any energy or feel light-headed!"
"Well, it was one bird..." Urgh! He doesn't get it. A flock of birds flew above us, I smirked.
"Watch." I could be a moment away from making a full of myself. Maybe it really was a chance the first time? I waved my finger with a snap to the left.
As if something was pulling the birds, they all collided against the bark. Xavier stood in shock, I beamed. "I think I've transitioned!" He tilted his head.
"Your eyes are brighter, vibrant and glimmering a different purple? A lighter shade of purple..."
"They didn't glimmer before?" I asked, allowing myself to get used to the surge of power pulsating through my veins and fingers. He shook his head.
I smiled to myself; the pulsating energy was compelling. I wanted to feel more of it, it appeared as if it was trying to push its way through wanting to be let out.
Xavier pulled me along and made me watch him hunt. I didn't get scared anymore when I saw the animal's lives taking right in front of me. I guess I've gotten used to it in a way? As we traversed, Xavier got a wave of transition.
His veins glowed and burned as more marks of fire moved toward his neck and arms. While those were burning, so did his previous burns and scars. I placed a hand on his shoulder, instantly my magic surged. It felt like a potent force of energy was running through. "This might make it worse or better."
"I don't care! Just do something!" He grits. I flinched from his outburst and closed my eyes. I focused on every part of his body where the streaks emitted. Once my magic covered him, I was able to see where the pain was emitting from. No wonder he was in pain... I don't think there was one spot on his body that wasn't in pain. I thought of the fire and how I wanted it to burn out. I opened my eyes and Xavier was lying on the ground panting and calm?
"It's almost like someone's froze every vein?"
"You don't feel pain?"
"Not as much, it's bearable." He gave me a smirk. "Looks like you've learned your first step to healing." I couldn't help but smile. Which quickly faded as a migraine pummeled through. I held my head. It slowly got better, but the first time it hit. It hit hard.
"Looks like I still have a long way to go." I shrugged off. From then on, he wasn't as cold with me nor irritated. Lessons were more enjoyable, I was able to take in the knowledge and comprehension. The constant suffocating feeling went away too, we practiced our communication methods.
Which also allowed me to understand summoning fire. When I've finally mastered the woods and hunting. I mastered manipulating fire, I was able to grow it or make the flames smaller. I even found out how to stop a fire and turn one back on. My use of flint and steel became less and less. I finally mastered how to summon fire on the ground, that is. We rested in a cavern, as usual.
