𝐋𝐔𝐍𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐉𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐀𝐍 stood side by side in the soft glow of his kitchen lights, the quiet bubbling of a pasta pot the only real sound between them. the silence wasn't awkward, it was easy, comfortable, like a favourite jumper you hadn't worn in years but slipped into naturally.
jordan handed her the chopping board with a small smirk. "you still cut peppers the same, you know."
"oh yeah?" luna raised a brow, taking it from him. "like how exactly?"
"very... carefully," he chuckled, watching her with amusement. "like they owe you money."
she laughed, shaking her head. "i don't play with knives, jord. one wrong move and you end up with no dedos."
"fair point," he muttered, stirring the sauce. "you always were the practical one."
"and you were always the chaos." she nudged his arm. "still remember when you nearly burned your fringe off tryin' to light that stupid candle for your mum?"
jordan groaned, laughing. "nah, don't bring that up. i told you it was a dodgy lighter."
"no, it was your dodgy technique," she smirked.
meanwhile, just beyond the kitchen arch, in the cozy living room where the evening news played quietly in the background, ruby and martina were sat cross-legged with their dolls and a tub of lego between them.
ruby leaned in close, her voice a whisper, "why are they so quiet?"
martina paused, glanced toward the kitchen, then giggled behind her hand. "i dunno... adults are so weird."
"right?" ruby whispered, eyebrows raised. "they were jokin' a second ago, now it's just stirrin' and choppin'. no noise!"
"they're probably bein' shy," martina whispered back. "mami does that when she's nervous."
ruby smirked. "my dad gets weird too. he fixes his hair when he likes someone."
"he did that before you got here!" martina said, eyes wide. "mami was fixin' her lip gloss in the mirror too!"
the two girls gasped in unison.
"they fancy each other!" ruby declared with a grin.
"you think they'll kiss?" martina asked, both hands covering her mouth in mock shock.
"ugh, noooo!" ruby laughed. "well... maybe. but not tonight. grown-ups are slow."
"super slow," martina nodded.
"operation corazón is gonna take forever," ruby muttered, then giggled as she placed a lego figure between them. "this is your mum, and this is my dad. now they're at a fancy dinner."
"with no noise," martina added with a laugh. "just stirrin' and blushin'."
back in the kitchen, jordan stole a glance at luna as she layered the salad, her face soft and focused. "you settled in alright?"
