"A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down." - Arnold H. Glasow
"I can't believe this! Why would you do that?!" She shrieked, her eyes turning glossy.
"Look, Lily, I can explain." His voice was soft and worried.
"I don't want any explainations!" Her voice was cracking. "I just thought you were different..."
"Lil _"
She clicked on the red button and threw her phone onto the bed.
Crouching on the floor, she sat with her head buried in her knees and her arms shielding her darkness from any light seeping in.
"How could he do this...?" She whispered to herself as she recalled all events.
Jade had been her best friend for years now. They had some complications and fights but held on together. Emily, or as called by the one and only, Lily, was a quiet and shy teenager. Apart from hanging around with her bestie, all she ever did was write.
She wrote novels and articles. But most prominently, she wrote poems.
Her poetry was delicate like a feather but radient as the sunshine.
And before you ask, No. She did not publish anything. Mainly because she lost her confidence.
Richard.
Jade's elder brother, and their third playmate, was always one to thrive for money. And after he pursued his business studies, his eyes turned to Emily. He trapped her into giving her manuscripts to him and sold them to other aspiring authors.
Something that broke her.
Jade had always been on her side. Or so she had thought.
It was all perfect till the call where he admitted to have tried to seek her password.
"So he was like his brother this whole time..." She smiled a pale smile. "Oh, what a fool I am..."
She cried herself to sleep at night, under the light of the bright crescent moon. Waking up in the morning was another nightmare for her aching back was complaining about the awkward position she dozed off in. She sighed as she looked into the mirror. Her messy red hair were tangled and her eyes were bloodshot and puffy.
However, as she was about to freshen up and get changed, several notifications popped up on her phone with many pings.
She frowned and opened her phone only to realize it was 5th May.
"Great." She said dryly as she scrolled through the various wishes and greetings.
However, as she was about to switch it off, something caught her eye.
It was a message from her friend, Rory.
Happy Birthday Em!
Great going girl! I never thought you'll have the guts but you did it!She messaged back.
Did what?
Rory replied almost instantly.
Published your poems, of course. I'm proud of you!
To say her breath hitched would be an understatement. She quickly flipped open her laptop and opened her account.
"What the..." Her jaw dropped as she saw all of her poetry compiled and published on social media.
Heartfelt poems
A masterful compilation

She then heard the bell ring and she walked in a dazed state to answer it. However, as she opened the door, nobody was around. Frowning, she began to close it but paused upon noticing a beautiful bouquet of Lilies lying before her.
A small envelope was also placed and she quickly opened it up.
She stood there, the wind blowing on her skin, her eyes tearing up. But this time, there was a soft smile etched on her face.
Happy Birthday, Lily.
How do you like your present? Was it just as special as you are?
