"We must learn to value and understand before its too late. And hence you can't put a flower back once you've plucked it." - Rose_160308
"Helena.." The voice was calm and mysterious. "Helena?"
I gasped and opened my eyes. It was pitch black and my favorite tune was being played on the old fashioned violin.
"Who are you?" I asked in a whisper and the hooded figure looked up. I felt myself tremble as my heartbeat rose. Her familiar brown locks fell down to her shoulders and her skin was fair with a healthy red tint.
"I am you and you are me..." Her voice was the same as I recalled.
I felt a strange twinge in me as I hissed. "What was that?"
"That was a sign that you'll be able to wake up very soon." She whispered softly.
I grimaced and suddenly, everything felt dull and grey. "My life is what you call colorless. It's all black and white."
"It doesn't have to be." She got up and I was able to make out my favorite baby blue hoodie. Suddenly, there was a pain in my head and I clutched it with a groan.
"Mom! Lena is not listening to me!" My little brother yelled as he tried to snatch the remote from my grasp.
"Helena! Don't trouble your brother, sweetie." My mom's voice rang.
"Yeah, what she said!" He pouted.
"Ugh! What is happening?" I groaned and she smiled.
"See? There's a lot of color."
I glared at her. "No there isn't!"
Her smile widened. "Let's show you more, then."
She placed her palm on her neck and my eyes immediately caught the shining object. My body shook as the surroundings changed.
"Close your eyes!" Dad chuckled as I complied.
He gently placed the pendant around my neck. I giggled as I felt the cold metal touch my skin and he struggled to fix it in place.
He groaned and moved as mom's experienced hands swiftly locked it.
"It's beautiful!" I gasped and hugged him tightly. "Thank you dad."
"Anytime, my princess." He puffed his chest out and mom rolled my eyes.
"They don't care!" I screamed and my eyes turned teary. "Nobody cares!"
"You're wrong, Helena." She walked closer and I could see myself in her eyes. "You know they care."
The gold flecks in her hazel eyes swirled as memories flooded in.
"Helena! Oh my god!"
"Call 911 immediately!"
"Please don't close your eyes!"
"NO!"
I gasped as my lungs expanded with a puff of air and my eyes shot open.
It was a plain, white room and a low beeping sound echoed throughout.
"She's awake!" A small voice sounded as little arms wrapped around my waist. "Mom! Dad! Everybody come here!"
Within seconds, I was engulfed in a warm blanket of hugs. Ever so slowly, as I recovered from the initial shock, I relaxed into their embrace.
I never felt such warmth and love before.
"Or perhaps you never noticed." Her voice came. "Perhaps you took it for granted."
My head snapped to the source of the sound and there she stood, twirling a single jasmine between her fingers. She bored into my eyes but as soon as I blinked, she was gone.
And I realized a jasmine was missing from the pot next to the window.
