Rain

"Turns out that they didn't even notice us in there! Can you believe that? And what of our training? Surely they did not make us loose one whole day of education because of their stupid meeting," I ranted on, pacing around my room. "Skyler, please. Stop pacing around. I need to think and you are making me feel panicked. And you know I cannot think like that, unlike you. So please, stop."

"Fine," I sighed, plopping myself on one of the beanbags that littered the floor.

Wendy and Carla showed up outside the bedroom after a while, so suddenly that when they opened the door, Scarlet and I jumped. "What? How did the two of you get here? Do you know how much time Carla and I spent looking for you on this island?"

"If by looking for us you mean bickering about who-knows-what at the Capital Building, then no." Scarlet fell to the floor laughing her head off at my smart comment. The two governors chose that moment to flush themselves redder than a crayon, causing me to laugh as much as Scarlet. "Come on, you two. Time to meet Rain." With that, they stalked out of the room, not waiting to see if we followed.

This Rain happened to be a pretty annoying guy. He kept on pestering Scarlet and I about this island and who we thought his Wisher was. The guy annoyed me so much in the first five minutes I met him, so I just slapped him straight through his unstoppable mouth. What struck me after I slapped him was that he had the nerve to laugh. Now he was truly getting on my nerves. "Oh. You must be Skyler. Pleased to meet yo-"

"The pleasure is all mine and shut it."

"There, there, Skyler. That's no way to talk to a stranger. Be a bit more proper, introduce yourself to him," said Wendy.

"Wow. You expect me to be proper to this? Amazing Wendy."
"Seriously, Skyler."
"You know what? I'm done with this for now. Besides, I need my sleep."

I went home again in order to process the information. The guy was so, very annoying. Then there was Wendy. I wondered how she and Carla did it, acting polite to everyone she did not know. Now I was stuck here, thinking, when Wendy decides to show up. "Skyler, get down here. I have important things to discuss with you." I groaned and went down there.
"First, why were you so impolite to that guy? Second, the Council has decided that you, me, Scarlet, Carla, and Rain will go on a quest to find out what is going on with Synkinisi. No complaints, please. I can't stand the guy either. Let's go to bed. Oh- I got you dinner. Eat it before brushing, I don't mind if you do eat on the bed."
That was one good thing that had come out of the day.

That night, after brushing, as I climbed into bed, I saw more grey hair peeking out of Wendy's scalp. "Wendy?"
"What?"
"You know, your hair is turning grey?"
"It's white. Not grey. Mine looks relatively good compared to Carla's."
"Why is it already changing color? The two of you are so young."
She smiled slightly. "Go to bed. Do you still need a lullaby?"
I blushed. "No... Of course not."
"Good. Then sleep. I already made your bed. Good night. Sleep tight."
"Yep. Back at you." What was up with her lately? She seemed to be really old.. Like almost 30-mentally. I guess she had changed since I last saw her.
"Skyler, are you asleep?" I knew she needed to know, so I just kept quiet.
"Good." Then I heard her start snoring. She must be tired. I needed to go outside and take a look at the cliff that the island had. No, I was not going to jump off. There was just something I needed to check, something very important.

I got to the cliff, in hopes that there was a piano or some orchestral instrument with sheet music in front of it. The pieces I had memorized were getting pretty boring to play. I really wanted to go wake Scarlet, but thought better of it. Carla was probably keeping a watch on her like Wendy was doing to me. Either way, there was no instrument there. I just went to a tree and sat at the base and dozed off for a while.

I woke up with the break of dawn. My back felt so much better. The soft mattresses at Wendy's house were annoying. They hurt to sleep on. I got up, did some basic yoga to stretch out and set off toward the house.
