And the Journey Begins

That Wendy. It's all her fault. What made her think that this group was sanest option she had? She could have chosen a more advanced group that did not have problems with getting along. Instead, she chose us. A group of kids that hardly knew how to work as a team. Why? The group is really off. We have two girls with low self esteem, a boy who is a complete idiot, and don't get me started with Wendy and Carla. All these thoughts swirled in my head as I was packing my backpack. Of course, she insisted that we only take what we were able to run with. Just then, I heard Wendy come in with the rest of the group, Scarlet and Rain having a pointless conversation that went something like this, "No. Mexican pizza is better."

"No, butter is better!" I sighed and went downstairs to greet them. These people had no sense of responsibility....

"So.... Are we ready? Because I know I am," I said.

"I see. Is everyone?" There was a shower of yes and no's. The no was me.

"What's wrong?" Wendy asked. "Why are you not ready?"

I inhaled sharply. "Nothing. I'm ready. So with that, we set off on our journey, only to be stopped by our Coast Guard. "Where are you headed, Wendy? Carla? And who are these kids?" Wendy bent down and whispered something that caused the guard to suddenly turn grim. "I see. It's not my business. Go on. But try not to die. Or loose your-"

"That's enough, Mr. Johnson." said Wendy.

Huh. I wonder what that was about.

"So... Does anyone want to stop by at Chipotle? It's been a while since I have been there, and I am hungry. Besides, we need to discuss our plans. Rain, you need to talk more," Wendy said as we entered the store. We ordered and sat down at a table to discuss.

"So... I have a pretty good idea of what our specialties are.." Wendy said. "Carla helped out a bit with that."

"Rain's is being annoying," I muttered.

Wendy shot me a sharp glance. "Anyway, we found everyone's specialties. So Carla and I will always take the first shift at all the camps we set up, unless we are in no condition to fight. Rain and Skyler will take the second, and Scarlet and myself take the third. We should be able to manage. We will start training as soon as we can. All of us contribute to the fighting; Skyler and Rain will be the leaders. We are following the trail of Synkinisi, which also happens to be the one with the best strategists." By then, we had finished eating and were just heading out of the island, getting on the line for the ferry to Mackinaw Island, after which the ferry takes us inland.

So we left that shop and got on the ferry. The ride was mostly uneventful except for the occasional interesting conversation involving "butter is better" or "Betty bought some bitter butter and returned it so she could have some better butter. You are Betty. Have fun" I was sure I would go loopy even before we started the quest, so to rid myself of this, I went near the opening. The wind was in my face and I immediately felt better. I thought of flying. I slowly rose above the deck. Wendy caught me just before I was noticeably off the deck. "What do you think you are doing? If anyone caught you, neither of us would be responsible for what happens next," She hissed. "Well, I did not know what would happen. It would have helped if you had actually trained me that day," I snapped back. This all reminded me of the day my sister disappeared.

So we got off the ferry and caught our breath. Rain questioned, "So where now? I've got no idea." Wendy spoke. "I have one. Synkinisi lives in the North Pole, where hardly anyone lives. So that is where we go. I also happen to know that she has a powerful force field, which will make travel harder for us the closer we get to the Pole. That is all I have to say. I hope all of us have passports?" We nodded. "Good. So now let's move it. We need to get to Sault Ste. Marie before midnight."

As we left this city and we managed to fly, with the help of Wendy, and almost got to Hancock but somehow fell down on the ground. Wendy was totally drained, so Carla shouted, "Stasi!" Turns out that that was the word for stop. We abruptly stopped and ended up falling on our faces a moment later. "So smooth, Carla. So smooth," said Wendy. "So how much more time until we reach the Pole?" asked Rain. I had forgotten he was with us. The stupid conversation of bitter butter and better butter came hurling into my mind.

"Not much longer, only a couple thousand more miles. Just hold your horses, because we will be plenty busy the next couple days. Carla and I need to start all of your training, so we will be spending a large amount of nighttime on that. So that means that we will have to extend time in order for us not to be too worn out."

So that was it. I was going to go through rigorous training, live with the bonehead, not get enough sleep, and to top it all off, we must fight our way to Synkinisi's place. Oh, joy.
