Keith's pov (few weeks later)

When the school bell rang and Keith stepped outside the building, he became aware of a figure looking at him intently across the street. The unfamiliar figure was Asher, and Keith was so surprised by the intensity of his gaze that he stopped and stared back.

Was it something about the dress he was wearing? Or was Asher marking his prey before attacking? Keith's heart started to race at the thought of being targeted by such a mysterious stranger.

He quickly turned and decided to put as much distance between them as possible.

Keith had been walking home often since Asher had disappeared. Asher had always been the troublemaker, getting into fights with other kids and skipping classes, but Keith had always looked out for him.

As he walked home one day, he noticed movement on the other side of the street and looked closer to see that it was Asher. Nothing had seemed the same about Asher for weeks, and as Keith looked closer, he noticed that Asher's gait was slow, his head hung low, and his gaze focused on the ground.

Keith started to move to cross the street, but stopped himself; he wanted to know if Asher was okay, but he didn't want to intrude. He slowed his pace, inching closer to Asher, and it was then he noticed Asher's eyes were red and puffy, as if he had been crying.

Keith followed Asher for a few more blocks, but Asher didn't look up and he kept walking. He wondered what had made Asher so sad, but in the end all he could do was watch Asher until he disappeared around a corner and out of sight.

Once keith was home, he went to his room and was thinking about asher and the way he hung his head.
