Chapter 5 •Maddie's POV• I crept silently down the stairs and out the door. I felt Kenzie grab my arm but i pulled it away. "Thanks Kenz but it's too late," I said. I felt her hug me from behind. This brought tears to my eyes. My mom may not want me but at least Kenzie did. "I'm coming with you," she said firmly. "Kenz are you sure?" I said. "Positive, I need my sister," he said. "But Kenz," I started. "No I'm coming with you," she pushed. "Fine but we need money and food," I said. "Mom leaves in an hour for her aerobics class," Kenzie explained. "Sometimes she leaves me home!" Perfect.
*1 Hour Later*
Me and Kenzie peeked through the window as my mom drove away. She had a bag in her hand and I had one in mine. Mine had some bread left but I was going to add more. We packed multiple water bottles and some non-perishable food. Kenzie got some peanut butter for our bread. We had some chips and bananas and apples. "Money is all we need," I said. Kenzie led me to a jar. Inside was about $50. We put it in a little bag and then in my bag. "Wait," I said stopping Kenzie. I ran up to our room with her. I grabbed two books of mine and some clothes. She did the same and then it was time to go. I took her hand in mine and we left our house.
