"Let's go for a walk, I feel cooped up at home" said Yuphel while sighing. I agreed to her request and we went for a walk in a nearby park. I still couldn't get Yuphel out of my mind. As we walked, I had more time to think about our situation. Am I actually in love with Yuphel? Is it a good thing to be in love with her? Is there actually hope in our relationship?"
I was lost in my thoughts when Yuphel interrupted me. "Jamyang are you fine? You seem a bit lost" said Yuphel while staring empathetically at me. Not good, my heart was beating faster on seeing her face. "Everything is fine" I said while trying to calm down. "That's reassuring. Let me know if you need help. I am always here for you." replied Yuphel which was then followed by a deep sigh.
"Are you ok? I noticed you have been sighing a lot today." I asked while still trying to calm down. "Well last night I saw your family picture. You've got a beautiful family. That made me miss my parents and I guess I am feeling homesick," replied Yuphel with a sorrowful look. I did not have anything to say. Yuphel had been alone for about a year now and she often told me she was close with her parents. It made sense she was homesick.
"Did you not visit your parents?" I asked quickly. " I did but when I reached home, I could not find them. They had vanished without a trace. I just miss them so much" said Yuphel before bursting into tears. I could not help but give her an enormous hug. She would always smile and look out for me and little did I know there was pain hidden behind her smiles.
"I am sorry I did not realize you had such problems. Promise me you will never hide your problems from me ever again. Even if I can't help you I will always be there to listen." I said while gently patting her head. She cried for a while and responded by saying "Thanks, I will not break our promise." As we walked back home we bought a box of macaroons and I came to a realisation.
The reason Yuphel had felt homesick was because I did not bother to make her room comfortable. Even though she was a spirit she was also a living being before. "I am so hopeless" I murmured. We spent the evening ordering bedroom items and it arrived three days later. Yuphel finally had a proper room and she stopped being homesick for our flat was finally a home to her. Ever since then, we have become more close and honest with each other.
As the days passed by summer season had begun. I was drenched with my own sweat and was envious of Yuphel. She was not affected by the heat and smiled at me with a smugged look. While I was dying due to the heat, a group of high schoolers came to the shop. It was around 12 pm and they were all excited. I suspected they were bunking class but I didn't bother to lecture them. The kids bought a pack of can soda and were planning for summer break. I then remembered it was now summer break, the business will be slow now.
"I guess it's now time for us to go on vacation as well, what do you say Yuphel?" I said while sweat dripped from my head like a waterfall. "Really? I would love to" said Yuphel in excitement. We closed the shop early and went home to decide the date and location. As we reached home I received a call. "Who was it on the phone" asked Yuphel curiously. I replied in a dull voice, "It was my younger sister Dechen Lhamo. She is coming tomorrow".
