Unlikely Friends

As Chimmi sat down he said “Why is there another girl above you?” “Excuse me?’’ said Dechen in an alarmed tone. “Though I cannot see, my other senses are heightened. I sense something hovering above you and I hear intense breathing.” Said Chimmi as he smiled. “He knows” said Yuphel in a frightened tone. “Yes I know” said Chimmi as he giggled.  “It seems you are aware about Yuphel, she is a spirit who lives with me. I hope you won’t share this anyone.” Said Dechen in a calm tone while Yuphel was hyperventilating. “Sure this will stay between us” said Chimmi.
Hours passed by and the trio became closer. “I moved to Thimphu with my family from Australia. We had lived there for 10 years. We are moving into our new flat today so I joined school during lunch’’ said Chimmi. “Woah, that’s cool. Your Dzongkha is amazing despite living there for a decade” said Yuphel in her usual voice. “Welcome back. I hope this encounter will blossom into a wonderful friendship.” Said Dechen in a cheerful voice. “I still cannot get used to being cheerful. And I just realized you have a broad vocabulary.” said Yuphel in a mischievous tone. “Well I am a cheery person, but the presence of my idiotic brother spoils my mood. I tend to use simple words around my brother as I know his simple mind cannot comprehend and understand the words I use.” said Dechen with a smug look. The three continued to chat and as the bell rang they parted ways. “He was quite funny, I can’t believe I made another friend’’ said Yuphel while humming cheerfully. “I know, he was understanding and a good person.” said Dechen. “Let’s stop by at Aunty Kezang’s bakery and buy some pastries’’ “Now you are speaking my language’’ said Yuphel excitedly.
Upon reaching the door of the bakery the girls bumped into Chimmi. “Oh hey guys, did you come here to buy some sweets?” said Chimmi. “Yep, this shop makes the best sweets” said Yuphel while Dechen nodded in agreement. “Oh, my aunty will love to hear that.” said Chimmi as he sat down in a chair on the porch. “Wait, is the owner your aunt?” asked Dechen. “Affirmative” said Chimmi. It was a pleasant surprise to the girls, having bought their sweets the girls walked Chimmi to his house. “Wait a minute, that’s where we live” said Yuphel. “Awesome!! We can walk together” said Chimmi in an excited tone. “Oi, come and help me move these boxes to the unit B4. The old man’s family is moving in so, CHOP CHOP.” I shouted as I saw the two arriving home. “The imbecile who shouted is my brother, wait here with Yuphel. I think we are moving your furniture right now.” Said Dechen
“Yuphel can you tell me about Dechen’s brother?” asked Chimmi. “Jamyang is a good person, he is quite understanding and he is just wonderful. Whenever I need help he is there, he was my first ever friend after I became a spirit.” said Yuphel. “Aww, that’s so sweet” said Chimmi. “I know he is so sweet, he is the only person who I can touch physically. Whenever I cry he comforts me, sometimes he even hugs me. Sometimes when I look at him my heart beats quickly and I can’t stop blushing. He is such good friend’’ said Yuphel while blushing. “Hey Yuphel, are you sure you just see Jamyang as a friend?’’ said Chimmi. “What do you mean by that” asked Yuphel in a confused tone. Chimmi smiled and said “Well normal friends don’t blush when they see each other, maybe you feel something else for him.” Yuphel blushed uncontrollably and wondered. “Do I only see him as a friend? Of course I do” As she was thinking I looked at Yuphel and smiled at her. Yuphel blushed and thought “Why is my heart beating? Oh no, Chimmi might be right. He might be more than a friend.”
