A Celebrity and a Hero

Chapter 5

Jaces POV
The hair and makeup crew came to the house to get Crystal ready for tonight. I'm sitting at the counter putting some photos from my SD card onto my computer. A few people would come in and out of the bedroom now and then but it was never Crystal. The makeup crew started to leave the house in a collective group. I watched as the door shut. "What do you think?" I heard. I turned to look at Crystal and my eyes widened. She's beautiful. "Wow" I breathed out. She blushed. "You're breathtaking" I said. She walked to me. "I have to go. Bryan is waiting outside." She rolled her eyes. I laughed and stood up. "Don't let him touch anything that's mine" I said. She smiled. "I never do" she said. She hugged me and gave me a peck on the lips. She giggled. "Wipe your mouth. Ill see you later. I love you" she said. "I love you too" I said. She left and I touched my lip. My finger is red. I smiled and rolled my eyes. Damn lipstick.

Crystals POV
Bryan is tall. Although everyone is tall to me because I'm five foot. He's got brown hair and brown eyes to match. He's the first person Rupert's paired me with that isn't completely white. I was starting to think he might be racist. Bryan is light skinned. "Salut Crystal" he greeted me. Shit, he's European. "Hi Bryan. Nice to meet you" I said. "You too. Don't mind my accent." He said nervously. "Its alright. Are you French?" I asked. "I'm from Switzerland actually. I didn't live there for very long, but it was long enough to pick up an accent" he chuckled. I laughed. "Shall we?" I asked. He nodded and opened the car door for me. We got in and the car started off. "Pardon me for asking, but what do you do? Rupert didn't really fill me in" I said. He smiled politely. "Well, I'm an actor obviously. I'm also a director though" he said. "Oh wow. That's impressive" I said. "Merci" he smiled. 

We stepped out of the limo and I hooked my arm on his. We stood on the red carpet as the paparazzi took their photos and asked their questions. I heard a few people boo and then saw those people getting removed by security. I looked over and saw Carter and Harlow. Carter is wearing a red and white strapless jumpsuit and Harlow has a matching suit. "I knew it was you" I said. "Of course you did. Didn't you see the haters?" Carter asked. I laughed. "Lets get out of here" Carter said. We all walked inside.

"So, you're Bryan?" Carter asked. "Oui, and you're Carter Jackson" he said. She nodded. "I am. This is Harlow, my girlfriend" Carter said. Bryan smiled. "You're a cute couple" he said. Carter looked at me. "Get paired with him more often. He's not homophobic" she said. I laughed. She looked back at Bryan. "If you do her wrong I will find you while you're sleeping. Bye!" She walked away. "Is she serious?" Bryan raised an eyebrow at me. "Probably" I shrugged. His eyebrows show up in shock. "Lets go get a drink" I pulled him away.

We've just been chatting with a bunch of people. "Would you like to dance Crystal?" Bryan asked sticking out his hand. I hesitated. Paparazzi are in here. They're gonna take a photo and then there'll be even more people shipping me and Bryan. "I... uh-" I was cut off by the lights turning off. People gasped and an eruption of worried talking spread over the room. A gun shot went off and the lights came back on. "Everybody down!" A group of guys in full black came in. We all ducked. Bryan and I backed up against the wall. I wish that the people with magic could help, but the law prevents anyone from stepping in unless they're a super hero. Its supposed to keep us from jumping into danger. LA does have a super hero though. Most states have their own hero. I hope she shows up soon.

Jaces POV
I'm switching through tv channels. I stopped on the news. "Police have the building surrounded after a local gang shot up the event" is all I heard before realizing what building that is. That's where Crystal is... and the police cant get in. I didn't hesitate. I ran into the bedroom and grabbed my super suit. I stared at it for a moment before putting it on. I turned my ears and tail dark blue and put on my mask. My suit is black and has a blue paw print on my back. I don't wear a cape cause it bothers my tail. I went to jump out the window and hesitated looking down. "Please forgive me Crystal" I jumped.

Crystals POV
They're robbing people. They haven't gotten to me yet but this is definitely terrifying. I'm just scared that they'll shoot everyone before they leave. As they got closer, I started to shake. The lights went out again and the gang seemed confused. "What the hell?" One of them said. "I didn't do it" another said. A high pitched ringing started and a dim blue light flickered around the room. My eyes widened as I realized what's happening. I was suddenly relieved, but then I was worried. Jace is here, and she's in costume. I don't want her to get hurt. The ringing and the flickering stopped and it was dead silent. "Whos there?" A gang member asked. I heard a loud thud and then a scream. I heard them fighting in the middle of the room. Glass breaking and tables falling. Flashes of blue were the only thing that could be seen. Its Jace using her magic. The lights came back on and all the gang members were tied together. We all stood and clapped looking at the new hero. I clapped but looked at her worried. She glanced at me and looked down. The police finally came in and Jace panicked. She jumped out a window and disappeared into the night.

Jaces POV
Its been a while since I did that. Was a good refresher honestly. I stood on top of the building. I watched the police take those guys away. I heard someone drop in behind me and I turned around. A mutant girl in a red super suit stood there. "Who are you?" She asked. "Damn local hero's" I groaned. I jumped off the building and started falling head first. "Its not that easy" I heard. The girl had jumped off and is following me. I sprouted wings from my back and flew back up. The girl made a platform and fell on it. She held onto it and flew across the air on it following me. "Oh come on" I groaned. I got faster and felt something tightly pull on me. I looked down and there's a red wire wrapped around my waist. I'm pulling the girl with me. She climbed the wire to get to me. "Guess what? I have that power too!" I yelled. I made a pair of scissors from thin air and snipped the wire. She started to fall and screamed. "Not fair! I cant fly!" She yelled. I panicked and looked down at her. I dove after her. "You couldn't have said that first?!" I shrieked. I held out my hand. "Grab onto me" I yelled. She grabbed my hand and I pulled her into me. I pulled up and flew to the top of a building. I got rid of my wings. "Who are you?" I asked, dropping her. "Me? Bitch its my city. Who are you?" She asked. "They call me the Wolf. I'm a hero so I don't know why you're attacking me" I said. "Sorry." she shrugged. I looked over her. She's about my height with blonde hair. She has red dog ears and a red tail. Her suit and mask is entirely red. "If its your city, why didn't you step in?" I asked. She sighed. "I was held up. I was on the way but I wasnt fast enough. I was gonna thank you actually. I'm the Ruff Ranger" she held out her hand. I shook it hesitantly. "Not being fast enough is what made me have to lay low for a while" I said. "What happened?" She asked. "A fire. I wasnt able to stop it or save anyone cause I was too late" I said. "Oh" she said. There was a moment of silence. "Where are you from?" She asked. "New Hampshire" I said. "The fuck?! What are you doing here?" She asked, shocked. I shrugged. "Well, welcome to LA. Ill talk you up to the press. Hope to see you around Wolf. It'll be nice to have a partner" she said. I smiled. "Yeah, see ya" I said. She stepped back on her magic platform and flew off.

I came home and changed. Crystal burst through the door. "Are you ok?" She asked. "Babe I'm fine. Calm down" I said. I walked to her. "You promised you wouldn't do it" she said. "I know, but I saw you in danger and I couldn't help it. I had to save you" I said. She sighed and looked down. "You scared the crap out of me" she said. "I'm sorry. Are you alright?" I asked. She nodded. "Thanks to you" she hugged me. "The Ruff Ranger seemed thankful for me" I said. She laughed. "As long as you're working with her, I guess its ok. She can keep you safe" she said. I rolled my eyes with a smile. "Ill be fine. Come on, lets go to bed" I said.
