"Why did I ever think this was a good idea?" I thought as I cleaned up the scraped shoulder of the soldier laying on the bed. "I'm not doing any good here. I'm a fighter, a good one too." I frowned, catching the attention of aforementioned soldier.

"What's the matter, honey? Having problems taking care of such a fine looking guy?" He asked, grinning stupidly. I sighed, tired of dealing with these stuck up boys for two months was awful.

"Why do you ask? Do you see any fine looking guys around?" I asked. He huffed and walked away, leaving me in peace for a little while longer. I started walking around the hospital tent and was stopped by another soldier soon after.

He looked at me and said, "Don't mind Private Hodge, Ma'am. He's a loud mouth more now than he ever was. You should have been here when Private Rogers was here. They chose him for somethin' special and he's never been back since."

My head jerked up when I heard the name.

"Do you mean Steve Rogers?" I ask and the gentleman nods. "He was here and I missed him by a couple months?"

He replies, "Sorry miss, maybe he'll come back to visit. Thanks for talking but I have to go. See ya later?"

"Maybe, just don't come because you need me for official reasons." I reply as he leaves the tent.

It's finally time for lunch and I leave with my fellow nurses for the mess hall. I hear murmurs of conversations passing between the girls as we walked. "...that cute guy there...my date tomorrow...shows to sell war bonds...star-spangled man is such a dear...Makayla...Makayla!"

I snap back to reality as I hear my name, "Makayla, are you even listening?" I shake my head in response. "Are you coming to the show tomorrow?" one of the nurses asks.

"What show? Why?" I ask curiously. They stare at me in shock.

"The one advertising war bonds! The one with Captain America!" I answer, "No, I wasn't planning on it. I think I might go anyway since you think it's so amazing."

While we continue our walk to the mess hall, Nurse Faye invites me to with her to the show and I accept. How bad could it be anyway, it'll boost morale around here and goodness knows we need it.

I take my seat next to Nurse Faye as I watch the little tent fill up with people.

"Don't you think this is a lot of people, Faye?" I question, seeing the people push together as there are no more places for them to sit. We're lucky we got here early and found seats before the crowd arrived.

"Shush, the show is starting!" Faye hisses from her spot next to me. I sit quietly as patriotic music fills the tiny tent and watch the ladies dance as a man comes out dressed in red, white and, blue and begins to speak, "Not all of us can storm a beach, or drive a tank, but there's still a way all of us can fight."

I perk up, listening to the voice coming from behind his mask. "I know that voice!" I realize.

"Series E defense bonds," He continues, "each one you buy is a bullet in the barrel of your best guys gun."

I sit through the rest of the show listening to the peppy music, but I still couldn't figure out where I recognized the man's voice from. Faye took the other nurses back to their tents as soon as the show was over but I waited behind for a little bit. I was walking around the show set up when I heard people talking and caught the sound of the Captains voice intermixed with the others. I sneaked around quietly until the voices got louder and found their setup behind the curtain.

"What are you doing here?" a voice said behind me. Caught! I slowly turned around to explain myself but the commotion we had made got the attention of those inside the tent.

"What's going on out here?" called Captain America as he walked out to where we were. I turned to face him as the guard stuttered his apology for disturbing the man and nearly fell over.

"Makayla Ross? It's you!" he exclaimed. "Go on, sir, I can handle this." he said, dismissing the man.

I struggled to find my voice and finally asked, "Is that you Steve? Is it really you?"

He chuckled, "Yep, its me. I've grown, haven't I?"

"I don't care, I'm just glad to see you." I replied as I gave him a hug, the happiest I've been in a while.
