I've been awake for hours but they don't know that. I don't want to talk to them so I haven't moved since I woke up. Someone walked into my room and sat down on my bed and began to talk to me.
"I know you're awake so I know you'll hear me but you don't have to talk back. My name is Steve and you know me but you probably don't remember. I don't know what Hydra did to you but I'm so sorry." I opened my eyes and looked at his head, turned away from me.
"I promise I won't hurt you if you take off my restraints. You seem nice." I whispered. His blond head whipped around to face me and I saw a look of longing in his face.
"I really want to but I can't. I don't know what they did to you. I trust you but not what they did." He said sadly. "I want you to believe that we're the good guys but I don't know how to convince you."
I sat thinking I silence for a while and had an idea. "I don't remember much but if I'm correct, Hydra should have a file on me and I think you probably have it." The man looked at me curiously and I continued, "If you let me read it, I might remember some things."
He jumped off my bed, praising my genius idea and ran to get the file. He jogged back into the room with two files in his hands and laid one of them beside me.
"That is the file Hydra had on you." He explained, "This is a file we had on you from before they took you. Start with that one first, though, it might be better."
I looked down at the file by my side and reminded the man that I had been restrained. He made a frustrated face and looked conflicted. He then got up and began to undo the bands.
"I'm trusting you right now. Please don't make me regret it." He told me.
I flexed my hands, getting the feeling back, then picked up the file and opened it.

I set the file down as the memories of Hydra came flooding back. All the people they made me kill, all the blood on my hands was overwhelming. And the guilt of it all was crushing, the death I caused and the things they made me do. I pulled my knees to my chest and started sobbing. I heard footsteps and felt a weight on my bed. Suddenly there were arms around me and I cried harder, his arms held me in love, real love. I couldn't remember any man touching me like that. He cared about me.
"You remembered, didn't you?" He asked quietly. I just nodded and kept crying. He pulled me closer and whispered, "It's alright. They can't hurt you anymore. They'll never hurt you again if I have any say. You are the closest thing I ever had to a sister and I promised to keep you safe. I'm sorry I broke that promise."
I pulled away slowly and saw that he had been crying as well. I took a deep breath and told him he didn't have to be sorry. "It's not your fault." I added, "You can't protect me from everything. But now that I know what Hydra did to me, I believe you." His eyes took on a hopeful look. "I know you are the good guys, I will never go back to them. I promise." I leaned in to hug him and didn't let go.
