Chapter 4. The Boy With The Sad Eyes

As I began to walk in the classroom, I quickly noticed that most of the seats were taken. I was hoping to get a seat in the back where I would be further away from my classmates. So much for that idea. I spotted an empty seat by the window and decided to sit there. While I waited for class to start, I examined everyone in the room. I like to examine people just to kind of guess what they are like. I like to kind of pick out which ones I might possibly get along with and those who would make a good meal if one of them pissed me off.

I examined this short, light tan brunette, who sat a couple rows away from where I was sitting. As I looked more closely at her face, I noticed that she was the girl who called my brother hot when we were walking in the hallways. I can tell from how the boys flirt with her and how she likes to wear clothing that revealed too much skin, she was one of those so called popular kids. Or as I like to call them, fake skanks. I examined the tan skinned football player who sat  right next to her. I'm guessing they were dating and that she was a cheerleader. How cliche.

I looked away and closed my eyes so that I can hear everything around me more clearly. I can hear the popular kids talk about the upcoming dance that was coming next month and the nerds in the corner talking about some video game called Call Of Duty. But then I suddenly heard a familiar voice as she came into the room. I opened my eyes to see that it was that annoying blonde that worked at the cafe. Great. It's bad enough that I see her at the cafe, but now she's my classmate. I'm already tempted to rip her head off. If it wasn't for Kenneth's compulsion, I probably would've done it by now. I sat in my seat looking away from her direction so that she wouldn't notice and recognize me.

Suddenly, I felt a presence as if someone was standing behind me. I didn't want to look and see who it was because I already knew. I can smell her Victoria Secrets perfume from the other side of the room.

''Oh my gosh! Hey you!'' she said excitedly. I turned to look at her and awkwardly waved at her, hoping she would get the hint that I didn't want to talk to her. ''You didn't tell me that you were going to go to school here.'' she said.

''I'm pretty sure there's a good reason why I didn't want to tell you.'' I thought to myself as I looked and raised an eyebrow at her.

She looked at me almost confused. ''Don't you remember me?'' she asked. I glared at her and said, ''Yes. I remember. You're the one who works at the cafe.'' I answered.

She smiled at me as she held out her hand and said, ''Well the last time we met I didn't properly introduce myself. My name is Charline Lawson.'' I looked at her and decided to play along so that she would leave sooner. ''Katrina Sarora.'' I said as I held and shook her hand.

She looked at me with a puzzled look on her face as she said, ''Your last name sounds oddly familiar. You wouldn't happen to be related to Kenneth Sarora would you?'' she asked. I looked at her in confusion, wondering how she knew my brother.

''Kenneth is my older brother.'' I answered. She looked at me with a huge grin on her face. ''Well that would explain why you both have the same eyes and last name.'' she said. ''How exactly do you know my brother?'' I asked. ''Well I don't actually know your brother. I just accidentally bumped into him in the hallways while you were in the bathroom.'' she explained.

The school bell rang and class was about to start. As everybody got up to find their seats, Mr. Harperio entered the classroom with a stack of papers in one hand and his handbag and coat in the other. Mr. Harperio was a tall, light skinned man around his late twenties, had blue eyes and dark chocolate colored hair. He wore a white buttoned down shirt and some nicely pressed black pants. I couldn't help but find our teacher rather good looking. But since I was a student here, I couldn't really try and make a move on this one.

''Good morning class! Welcome back to Krystic Mountain High School! I assume that you all had a wonderful summer vacation and are back and ready to learn!'' he said as he let out a small chuckle. ''So I see that we have a new student here today.'' he said as he looked towards my direction. ''Young lady would you like to come up to the front and introduce yourself?'' he asked.

I glared at him and slowly got up from my seat as I made my way to the front of the class. As I stood next to him, he laid his hand on my shoulder and asked me to introduce myself to the whole class. I hesistated for a minute, but then decided to go along with it. ''My name is Katrina Sarora and I just recently moved back here.'' I said as looked at everyone staring directly at me. I heard the brunette whisper something to her best friend. Too bad she has no idea that I can hear every word she's saying. ''What a total loser.'' she whispered. ''She looks easy to break. Maybe we should give her a proper welcome after school.'' she said to her friend as she looked back at me. I gave her an evil look as she rolled her light brown eyes at me.

''Katrina, you may go back to your seat now.'' Mr. Harperio said as I walked back to my seat. ''Marissa Jensen. This is a classroom. Not a place to have little conversations with your friends. You can do that after class but not during my class.'' he said as if he was giving her a warning.

''Hmmmm... Marissa eh? Looks like I know who I'm having for lunch today.'' I thought to myself. I wonder what kind of proper welcome she's planning on giving me? I'm practically jumping with joy inside to see what she has in stored. But what she doesn't know is that she is in for one hell of a surprise.

Mr. Harperio went into the supply closet and carried out a stack of textbooks. ''Alright class. I'll be coming around to pass you a textbook. Once you get it, please turn to chapter one so we can begin our first lesson.''

As I turned my book to chapter one, I got distracted by the sound of someone coming in the classroom. It was tall, light skinned boy, with dark brown hair styled up in a quiff. Sorta like how my brother has his hair. He wore a pair of dark skinny jeans, a fitted black V- neck, and leather boots. He had a perfectly structured jawline and can clearly see his biceps slightly flexed. I examined him for a minute as our eyes met. As I stared into his beautiful, dark green eyes, not only can I stop looking at his chiseled features, but I can see so much pain in his eyes. Like he's been through hell. There were no tears needed to see that this boy was in so much pain and is suffering from it. Even with a charming smile to hide his pain, his eyes is what gives it out.

''Ah... Jaxson! So glad you can finally join us! We were just getting ready to start our first lesson! I hope that this will be the first AND last time you arrive late to my class Mr. Christinsen.'' Mr. Harperio warned as he handed Jaxson a textbook. ''I'm sorry sir. It won't happen again.'' Jaxson promised as he took the book from Mr. Harperio.

''It seems that all the seats have been taken, but there's an empty seat available right next to Katrina.'' as Mr. Harperio pointed at my direction. As Jaxson made his way to the seat right next to me, I can tell that something was really bothering him. He mostly kept his head down and kept looking at the ground.

As he sat down next to me, I can smell his warm blood circulating through out his body. The scent of his warm blood made my nose twitch as I tried to control myself. His blood smelled so pure and I was dying to feed on him. But thanks to Kenneth's compulsion, my body wouldn't allow me to no matter how much I wanted to.

I finally fought off the temptation to feed on him. I then noticed the other students in the classroom whispering to one another. ''Did you hear about what happened to Jaxson's family? I heard a girl say. ''I heard they all died in a fire.'' I heard another girl say. ''I thought it was an animal attack?'' a guy asked.

''I heard that he got really angry and killed his family.'' ''Maybe it was a murder?'' Maybe they died in a car crash?'' ''Maybe they were poisoned?''

So many different stories, one after another. But they were all similar. He lost his family. They all died somehow but no one is exactly sure how. But now I can see why. I can finally understand why his eyes are filled with so much pain. Why he's suffering so much. His eyes are just like mine. We're both the same. We're both suffering from the scars of our past. We both know what it's like to lose someone we love. We both feel the same pain.
