Chapter 6. Familiar Faces
The next day, I woke up and ran downstairs in the living room to see if Victor was here. I checked every part of the house, but Kenneth and I were the only ones here. He was probably still mad at me from last night. I went to the kitchen to start making breakfast when I found a note on the fridge. Immediately I knew that it was from Victor. I began to read the letter as I heard Kenneth coming down the stairs.
Kenneth and Katrina,
By the time you find this, I'm already miles away by now. I left last night while you guys were
asleep, and discovered our intruders's scent leaving town. I want to find out what they want so
please do not follow me. I will give you a call if I find anything. Keep an eye out for anything
suspicious in town while I'm away. I should return home by dawn. Keep each other safe and be
careful.
-Victor
P.S. Kenneth, be sure to keep a close eye on Katrina. Make sure she doesn't feed on anyone while
I'm gone. If I find out she even has a single drop of human blood I'LL KILL HER!
As I set the letter down on the table, Kenneth found two excuse letters for us to give our principal when we return to school. If we don't go back, people will start to get suspicious on why we left school yesterday and not come back the following day. On top of that, Victor will be absolutely furious if we didn't. With that being said, Kenneth and I went upstairs to freshen up and get ready for school. The weather today was pretty cloudy, so I decided to wear a black fitted long sleeve, a beige colored scarf, a pair of dark skinny jeans, and my brown leather boots.
I went downstairs to see that Kenneth was already waiting for me. He kept his look simple today for he was wearing a white t-shirt, a pair of black jeans, a dark grey zip up sweater, and his black and white converses. We both grabbed our backpacks off the table and drove off to school.
When we arrived at the school, we noticed a bunch of memorial posters and crying students everywhere we turned. I got out of Kenneth's car to look at one of the posters. The people on the posters were the same ones we saw dead in the forest last night. I didn't realize that they were also students here.
Kenneth and I went inside the school to give our excuse letters to the attendance lady. As we walked through the hallways, almost every conversation I heard was about the attack last night. Everyone throwing out different solutions on what kind animal may have caused the attack.
I looked over a couple feet away from us and saw that slutty cheerleader, Marissa, crying too. Her friends trying to comfort her while mascara is streaming down her face. I couldn't really understand why until I saw a poster in her hands with a picture of her boyfriend on it. I then remembered seeing her boyfriend dead last night as well. Even though she's a bitch and gets on my nerves, I still felt a little sorry for her. Almost enough to want to comfort her. But I decided to let her cry her eyes out.
After Kenneth and I turned in our excuse letters, I got my books out of my locker so that Kenneth can walk me to Mr. Harperio's class; just to be safe. As we finally got to my class, Kenneth stood by the door for a little awhile to make sure I was alright. I'm a little worried that I might snap and attack someone because he didn't compel me to not feed on anyone. I'm not sure if Kenneth is trying to test me, or if he just trust me enough to control my thirst. He must really believe in me if he's just going to leave me alone in a classroom filled with warm blooded humans without compelling me. Yesterday, I could barley control myself from feeding on Jaxson even with Kenneth's compulsion. Now I'm worried that I might SNAP! It was one minute until class was going to start. Kenneth waved goodbye as he left to go to his class. One by one my classmates started to enter the room. I tried not to make eye contact with anyone just to be safe. I'm hoping that I will be able to control myself, especially since Jaxson is sitting next to me. As I tried to distract myself by looking out the window, I smelled a familiar scent walk in the room. Without turning my head to see who it was, I already knew that it was Jaxson. He made his way to the seat next to me and began to pull out his textbook from his backpack.
