Everly was fixing Arya's little dress as she threw her bow to the ground for the millionth time, this little girl was not going to be a little prissy princess like Sansa. Arya was going to be a fighter.
"Can't you do anything right?" Catelyn demanded and Everly cradled Arya to her chest.
"She doesnt like the outfit you-''
"She is a baby she will wear what you put her in, if you cant dress a child then what good are you?" Catelyn demanded.
"Perhaps a different dress, and she doesnt like things in her hair-"
"She is my daughter I should know what she likes and doesnt." Catelyn snapped.
"You should." Everly agreed calmly. "But clearly you don't. Arya doesnt want to-" She was cut off abruptly as Catelyn slapped her across the face, the sound of the hit echoing off of the chamber walls.
Everly did not give Catelyn the satisfaction of reaching up to touch the now throbbing side of her face, choosing instead to stare up back at Catelyn, fury and rebellion evident in her own eyes but she had to be calm, she had to apologize, she had to be the bigger person before the Gods knew Catelyn wouldnt be. Everly opened her mouth slightly before biting back the pain and sassy response. A trickle of blood began to run down the side of her face from where one of Catelyn's rings had cut her skin. As if another dig in itself, that her ring, her marriage to Ned was stronger more powerful than her own love for Ned. The father of her son.
"You will not disrespect me in my own home you little whore," Catelyn hissed at her, her regal mask slipping to show the true woman she was beneath the woman Everly knew all along Catelyn to be... twisted and foul.
"Please forgive me." Everly said slowly as she held out Arya to Catelyn but Catelyn didnt want her, she just wanted a fight, wanted Everly to fight back so she could have a real reason to dispose of her. "I will put the bow back on Lady Arya." Everly added without blinking. "I'm sorry... for my actions." Catelyn huffed a breath nose high in the sky as she turned to leave. Everly snarled, clenching her fist, wanting to strangle Catelyn as she left.
Everly dressed Arya and Arya screamed and cried the whole time, it was surely itchy and uncomfortable she was just a babe and yet Catelyn wanted her child to suffer.
"What's going on in here?" Ned questioned peering in.
"Arya hates it. She hates it and-"
"Everly, your cheek." Ned reached out.
"I'm fine." She assured.
"Who did this?" Ned demanded.
"Can you take Arya? I... she hates her clothes and Catelyn will just make a stink again if-"
"Catelyn hit you?" ned seethed. "How dare she-"
"Ned, Ned, Ned please, its fine, I'm fine just..." She held out arya. She wailed out in his arms. "I can't see her like this, so miserable." Everly whispered pressing a kiss to Arya's little face. "Excuse me, I will find Jon and we will stay away from the banquet hall as Catelyn demanded."
"Everly-" Ned reached for her.
"Find me later," Everly requested kissing his cheek. "I'm okay, I promise, just... I will see you tonight." Ned nodded moving on sluggish feet with a whimpering Arya to the banquet hall. Catelyn's face scrunched up when she heard Arya's cries.
"Where is whats her name?" Catelyn demanded. "Make her stop crying, we have important people here." Catelyn instructed but Ned just passed Arya off. "What am I supposed to do with her?"
"You wanted her in this attire that she clearly hates, you try to soothe your daughter." Ned suggested. "I need a drink." He moved to Robb ruffling his hair as he poured a drink.
"Where's Jon and Ms Everly?" Robb questioned.
"Your mother didnt want them here." Ned admitted.
"But why?" Robb questioned.
"You will have to ask her, I want them here." ned remarked.
"Why is Arya screaming?" Robb questioned.
"She doesnt like her dress." Ned answered.
"Then why is she wearing it?"
"Ask your mother." Ned repeated.
"Is she the reason why everyone is mad all the time?" Robb pondered as he poked at his food.
"Yes." Ned agreed without hesitation.
"I made you a special pie for tonight."
"Pie for dinner?" Jon declared as Everly held out a fork.
"Pie for dinner." She agreed.
"Mama what happened to your cheek?" Jon questioned reaching out for her.
"Oh... Catelyns hand connected with my face." Everly offered.
"I'm sorry mama." Jon whispered she wrapped an arm around him. "She's so mean."
"She is." Everly agreed. "So I'm so glad you are so sweet so make up for it." She shoved her fork into the pie and Jon laughed out copying her. "Cheers baby."
"Cheers!" Jon declared they clinked forks and took a bite. Everly moaned into her bite. "Good! Thats so good!" Jon agreed. "Hey mama, whats the occasion?"
The Starks were having a party and we were not allowed in, Catelyn loved to keep Everly from gatherings. But jokes on her, Everly didnt want to go to parties if Jon wasnt allowed in.
"The occasion is just because I love you."
