"You know my lady, Jon is quite skilled at everything he tries." Rodrick remarked.

"He has a knack for it." Everly agreed. Jon waved back at her from the training swords.

"Lady catelyn doesnt like him training against her son." Rodrick added softly and Everly's smile faltered just a hint. "But it seems a shame to let such skill go to waste on training dummies and straw lords."

"Safer that way." Everly countered.

"Hi mama," Jon whispered running up to her.

"Hi baby, Ser Rodrick says you are doing so well," Everly remarked. "Can I see you win against the... what did you call it? LOrd of straw?" Jon chuckled nodding to the training dummy.

"Watch me." Jon agreed she kissed the top of his head before he ran off.

"You knew the boys mum." Rodrick remarked. Everly tensed.

"Yes..." Everly agreed. "She was a sweet woman, Ned is a wonderful man taking Jon in. ANd myself." She added. "He has been so good to us, all of you have, so welcoming."

"Mama, are you watching?" Jon called back to her.

"Excuse me, Ser Rodrick." Everly remarked he nodded as she took a few steps closer to see Jon better. "I'm watching!" Everly called out. Jon beamed back at her before turning his sights on the lord of straw.

"How is he doing?" Ned questioned.

"Quick learner, always has been. He will be a master in any weaponry he chooses in no time." Rodrick remarked. "Everly is a sweet woman, coming out here for his training, I know Jon loves seeing her out here. He loves making her proud" Rodrick added.

"Everly is the closest thing Jon has to a mother," ned offered. "He adores her. "

"I might be overstepping my lord, but you seem to adore Ms Everly as well." Rodrick murmured.

"YOu are overstepping." Ned agreed but he moved to Everly's side all the same. "Our boy looks good."

"He's great, he's so great!" Everly declared clapping when Jon finished. "How do you know when the straw opponent is dead?" Everly questioned.

"WHen I decapitate it." Jon offered with a shrug.

"yes, that would certainly be something." Everly agreed.

"Your form looks good, Jon." Ned remarked.

"Thank you, father" Jon answered. Jon watched as Ned pulled a sparring sword free testing it in his hand, he had not used this in many a years but he knew Jon needed more competition. Even if it was his old man.

"What do you say Jon, boy, some real competition?" Ned pondered spinning the blade.

"Really? But I dont want to hurt you." Jon countered.

"I think he just called me old, Everly... did you hear that?" Ned mused.

"You are not a spring chicken anymore Ned." Everly agreed.

"I can take on my own son." Ned assured and Everly saw the pride in Jon's eyes every time Ned called him son.

"I would love to," Jon agreed. "I will be gentle."

"As will I." ned assured winking back at Everly.

Everly didnt like violence, she loved her boys and knew they were training but she flinched every time their swords connected. She withheld the urge to scream 'be careful' or 'don't stab his eye out'. But her boys were doing good. Jon loved getting to train against someone, loved that it was his father training him like this.

"Alright, alright," Ned remarked with a laugh. "Good work today."

"Jon honey that was wonderful! You did amazing my love, amazing." Everly declared hugging him tight.

"Thanks mum." Jon whispered against her.

"Ned, you need to get back into training, Jon almost beat you." Everly mused. Ned chuckled putting away the swords. "You did so great, you will have to train with your father more often, get you both some practice."

"Oh great Jon, now Everly thinks I'm an imbecile, can't defend myself against a child." Ned mused.

"I'm not a child."  Jon corrected.

"A young man you are becoming." Ned agreed.

"Always my little boy." Everly coed kissing his forehead.
