Draco looked around before spotting Weasley and Granger. Harry had told him to meet him in the entrance hall after lunch.
"Oi, Malfoy! Have you seen Harry?" He frowned but shook his head.
"He was supposed to meet me here." He said awkwardly. He didn't want to think Potter had stood him up.
"There you are! Harry's been harassing the merpeople for thirty minutes." Longbottom said as he skidded around the corner, Blaise at his side.
"I asked him what he was doing and he said he was fishing?" Blaise commented as he stepped closer to Longbottom.
"Oh no." Weasley pinched his nose and they all turned to stare at him.
"When we were researching for the second task, I read a book about merpeople. Sirens are their natural enemy. Apparently they like to play with them before eating them, like a really messed up game of tag." Draco knew Sirens were considered Dark Creatures because of their more violent nature.
"Merlin!" Longbottom gasped out, his face pale.
"Sirens are very territorial too. They've been known to fight other pods and eat them for crossing into their territory." Weasley explained and Draco turned before walking towards the large doors.
"Let's go make sure Harry doesn't get himself expelled for decimating the merpeople population." They followed behind him and he walked a little faster until he could see the lake. Harry was crouching near the edge and every few seconds he would tap the water to cause a rippling effect. Draco could see the heads of a dozen merpeople poking out a couple of feet away.
"Harry!" He called out and his head snapped around. His scales were in full view and Draco could see his sharp teeth glisten as he beamed at him.
"Draco! What are you doing here? Do you want to play?" Harry asked happily as he tapped the water again.
"We were supposed to meet up, remember?" He said and Harry's face fell.
"After lunch! I'm sorry. I was walking by the lake and smelled something tasty. I must have gotten distracted. Please forgive me." He finally stood up before looking at him. Draco snorted at his sad expression before flicking his forehead.
"I forgive you. Tell me why you're scaring the merpeople?" Harry grabbed his hand before pulling him closer to the water, their friends on either side of them.
"I don't like them!" He announced loudly, his eyes staring at the water.
"Why?" Draco waited for Harry to stop hissing angrily before he replied.
"They stole my pod! I tried to take Ron AND Hermione back but they wouldn't let me! What if something happened to them? What if they take you? I won't stand for it." He snarled out, tapping the water.
"They aren't going to take me, Harry." He said softly and Harry buried his face against his chest.
"Of course they won't because I'm going to thin out their village." Weasley coughed before catching Harry's hand.
"Why do you keep tapping the water, Harbear?" Harry grinned at them, his eyes bright with glee.
"The ripples throw off their senses. They won't be able to tell where I'm coming from and it causes them to panic." Draco felt bad for the merpeople. It was obvious Harry had been keeping them in a constant state of paranoia by playing with them.
"Oh. Harry, if I asked you to leave the merpeople alone, would you?" Draco knew creature instincts were strong so he knew there was a possibility Harry would be eating the merpeople. They would just have to do their schoolwork from home. It could be fun, not having to deal with other students or getting points taken away!
"You want me to ignore them?" Harry looked conflicted before he took a deep breath.
"Okay, if you're the one asking. I won't bother them as long as they stay away from my pod." Draco couldn't help his smile as Harry hugged him tightly while glaring at the water. Everyone cheered as they avoided getting expelled. A loud scream interrupted their celebration as one merperson swam forward before screaming again. Draco knew mermish sounded like a series of screams above water. Harry seemed to stiffen in his arms before he spat out "Say that again!" The merperson froze before repeating himself, his tone full of confusion. Harry yanked himself out of his arms and dove into the lake before Draco could blink, his face full of rage. The merpeople disappeared under the water with Harry following them.
"Merlin's pants, that's not good." Weasley sighed before sitting down, Granger following him. Draco felt like a weight had settled on his chest the longer Harry stayed out of his sight.
"What are you doing?" He cried out as Granger took a book out of her bag.
"Sit down, mate. Harry will take care of it." Weasley patted the spot next to him and Draco begrudgingly sat down.
"I know it must be scary experiencing it for the first time, right? The Harry Terror." Longbottom said as he started shuffling a deck of cards.
"The Harry Terror?" Draco repeated, his eyes still of the water.
"The mind numbing terror you feel when Harry does something idiotic?" Granger said and Weasley snorted.
"Like your chest is tight and you can't catch your breath or the sinking feeling in your stomach?" Draco opened and closed his mouth.
"Merlin, that's exactly it!" He shared a flabbergasted look with Blaise as the Gryffindor's clapped him on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, Malfoy. It gets better." Pansy wheezed as she stopped in front of them.
"Heard Potter was doing something stupid." She collapsed beside Granger and the other girl patted her back.
"Harry's always doing something stupid. We're just waiting for him to resurface." There was a flapping sound followed by a series of screeches as Harry dragged something from beneath the water, his smile wide.
"Apologize!" The merperson looked terrified as he shouted out what Draco could only assume was an apology. Harry continued to hold onto him, his face unreadable.
"Okay! See you later!" Harry finally said, letting go of him. The merperson looked shocked before quickly swimming away. Harry shook the water out of his hair before getting out of the lake. Draco was by his side in an instant, drying his clothes with a spell so he wouldn't get cold.
"I'm sorry, Draco. I told you I wouldn't bother them and I immediately went back on my word." Draco rubbed his back slowly.
"What happened, Harry? I was very worried about you." He admitted and Harry scowled at the water.
"He was thanking you for saving the village." He hissed before continuing "thanking my food." Draco shared a confused look with the others and watched as Harry curled his hands into fists.
"How dare he call you my food? As if I was only keeping you around to eat you later? You're my greatest treasure, my beloved! I should have taken his tail for such an insult." Draco felt a warm feeling spread throughout his body as Harry continued to shout insults at the lake. He had been defending him! It was sort of romantic. He hadn't even hesitated to jump into the murky waters.
"Thank you Harry but please tell me before you do something like that. I was scared something would happen to you." Harry promised and they spent the afternoon wandering the grounds.
