Levi's pov

"Marquess! We did not expect your arrival so soon!" Grisha gasped as I entered the royal palace. He was in the process of leading around one of the head knights of the royal guard.

I bowed.
I was the marquess, but my duty was still to serve the emperor and his family.

"Black? Child what have I told you about that cursed color in these walls...?" Grisha sighed as I straightened my posture. I was adorned in a black suit with a red sash.

"I apologize sir, but it is the house of the Ackerman crest that adorned itself in black and red." I snickered as he waved off the royal guard. Something I chose once I became the marquess. It's always been a conflict among the empire, since the emperor's palace was decorated in bright beautiful sashes and various colors of flowers.

I didn't want the marquess household to match the empire, so the first thing I did was change the family crest to black and red.

"What brings you here? Did my son summon you?"

Straight to the point old man... As sharp as always.

As a matter of fact I was not summoned at all, I simply know whenever I might be needed.
"I decided to pay a visit to the crown prince to discuss some personal matters about his upcoming event... You know how much he values my input your highness." I smirked as Grisha nodded his head.

"He is doing his daily activity in the drawing room. Princess Mikasa is with him, but feel free to send her away if you must."

"A thousand thank yous your majesty." I bowed once again before clicking my tongue.

Nothing annoyed me more than having to kiss up to these bastards.

"There's no need for such formality marquess Levi, you've been coming here since you were but a child. I do ask that next time you provide a warning before you show up at the palace unanounced." He responded.

"Why should I provide any warning your majesty? As you've said I've been coming here since I was a child. I'm your highnesses son's closest confidant... Unless you're plotting something he should not be aware of..." I began, turning my gaze towards Grisha, who squirmed under his garments at my sudden prying.

Reading people. It's always been something I'm good at.

"Forgive me your majesty for my prudence." I apologized to stay on his good graces. I could tell my prying was getting in his nerves, and in order to not loose my own head I knew I had to tone it down.

He turned up his nose towards me and gave a sigh.

"Child, do not forget what you have promised towards my family. The devotion of the previous marquess precedes you." He cautioned. I let out a laugh.

"How could I ever forget your majesty. I'll be taking my leave now, Eren will be terribly upset if he finds me here without seeing him first." I bowed once more before leaving Grisha, making my way past the stairs towards the drawing room.

The royal palace, though incredibly huge, it seemed small in comparison to erens dreams for society. As a child we always talked about how one day we would change the world, modernizing it.

As I turned the corner, nearing the large handcrafted doors that lead to the drawing room various maids watched my every move. I drew attention most everywhere I went. As a young bachelor with such a high title as marquess, it's made me the target of many noble women trying to become my marchioness.

But that arrogant girl from the other night has been my every waking thought since. Especially when I saw her, arm in arm with none other than the bastard son Zeke Jaeger. I could hardly quell my anger if I wasn't already busy dealing with a drunkards death.
