I don't recall how long I spent on the balcony, staring at the garden after Levi left me. Once I entered the party again, I wasn't at all shocked to see the crown prince Eren himself along side of tonight's debutante. It was customary for a member of the royal family to attend the debutante balls of the families closest to the royal family.

I glanced around the ballroom unable to find where my poet ran off to. I decided that it was probably for the best. After all I only met him for half an hour, and during that brief time I forgot all of my morals.

Never again. I have a job to do.

I lifted up the end of my dress so that I wouldn't trip as I made my way towards my mother and father, who were off in a corner speaking to a blonde man I've never met before. I had this bad feeling grow inside, as I watched the three of them whisper to one another.
Mother's words came back to me at that moment, hinting that one day I would be married.

I stopped walking, and just watched the three of them discuss whatever it was he needed.
Have I already outgrown my usefulness to mother and father? Would she really sell me off?
I wondered, clenching the sides of my dress tighter in my fist.

No... There's no way. No way that she would do this to me. Not after everything I've done..
My jaw clenched out of reflex as my eyes made contact with my mother's, but before I even had a chance to react I was pushed to the floor.

"Oh my..." A woman's voice sighed as my mask slid across the floor. When I fell I managed to catch myself with my hands before my whole body hit the tile, but it still hurt catching myself like this. I knew my knees would be skinned or bruised in an unsightly way by morning. I sucked air through my teeth as the pain settled in.

The room grew quieter as if studying what I would do next. I turned around, shocked to see tonight's very debutante standing over me, with her gloved hand over her agape mouth.

"Oh my..  forgive me lady y/n I had not known you were right behind me.." she apologized as I shifted around, trying to stand to my feet.
Frieda reiss. A shifty little bitch, she used to be kind towards me but one day her attitude shifted, and suddenly she had no time for our lessons, and I was never invited to one of her tea parties again. Part of the reason being that I truly didn't belong in high society. Many of the richest nobles knew I was adopted from a prison cell where I was to be hung, but due to my parents status it was swept under the rug.

I can only imagine the reiss family had some of that information stored away for moments like this.

A smile spread across her lips as I struggled to stand, but kept slipping over my dress.
"Won't you stand, lady y/n? I imagine this is quite embarrassing for you..." She sighed. I bit my tongue, fighting back the words I wished so desperately to say to her, but I knew if I spoke, it wouldn't be my reputation that would suffer. And she knew that.

"Oh my what a mess...  Are you ok?" A gentle voice asked, brushing past Frieda. I didn't dare look in the young man's eyes as he held out a hand towards me to lift me to my feet. I only accepted the hand and let out a sigh.

"Thank you kindly... I am fine." I responded coldly looking at Frieda once again. Her eyes were wide.

"Ah prince Eren you shouldn't have done that! I've known lady y/n for a long time, she's quite clumsy. She couldv-" she began as I looked into the emerald green eyes belonging to the crown prince Eren.

I quickly pulled my hand from his as he studied my features.
"Lady y/n. You're the daughter of theo and Lara, aren't you?" He asked as I did my best to courtesy. The class system might have went away long ago, but it was still a common law not to disrespect a member of the royal family.
