....Ohhhh shit.
It felt like time had frozen as I sat there, my stomach dropping to my ass. I hadn't even taken a bite yet! The news channel being broadcast switched to show the crash site that brought both of us here. It looked worse than what I remembered, the area was cordoned off with yellow caution tape.
Behind the tape, there were several white tents near the bus and a dozen of those weird animals dressed in lab coats and hazmat suits scurrying around collecting every little thing. It looked like the whole police station was there considering the amount of police cruisers present!
A lot of those officers were at the scene in the background, there were a variety of animals that were on the force, but the ones that I recognized were alligators, lions, raccoons, several breeds of canines, a buffalo, and a couple of deers. half of them were patrolling the area and aiding those in lab coats and the other half looked like they were scouring the forest.
I guess Mari made the right call on leaving...
As the TV played on, the urgent news report captured the attention of everyone in the diner, even drawing the three chefs a pig, a hyena, and a lizard out of the kitchen to see what was happening. Everyone, except for us, became engrossed in the broadcast, watching with curiosity and worry. Whispers circulate through the diner, shooting my anxiety through the roof.
"Hmph... what kind of accident needs that much attention," grumbled the pig chef to himself.
"Oh damn... I hope everyone in that wreck came out alright..." the collie whispered to his co-worker.
"Hazmat suits? Why on earth would they need something like that?" the otter muttered to himself,
"Look at the amount of animals there! Whatever that crash is, it must be serious," the cougar muttered to his partner.
These were just a few snippets I overheard as Mariana and I devoured our food in record time, taking advantage of the distraction. I hope this will give us enough time to make a quick escape.
"Hey, Phill! Do us all a favor and turn up the TV for us!" the bull from the bar shouted at the leopard working behind the counter.
The leopard, who was greatly intrigued by the broadcasting, snapped his attention away from the TV, annoyed. He did a sharp huff in response while reaching for the remote and raised the volume, this caught my attention as I became more curious. The news anchor, who is a lioness wearing a black suit with an expensive-looking microphone went on with the report
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Lisa Thompson, and this is NNN, bringing you breaking news. We interrupt our regular programming to bring you a highly unusual incident that has occurred today at Beluck Park. Earlier today, There was a strange bus that had a brand that nobody had heard of. The bus swerved from the road and then crashed and rolled into the forest."
"But If that's not strange enough for you, there is something else even more alarming about this! we just got the news that the supposed bus was carrying Humans, yes you heard me right, Living Humans on board!" the lioness said with excitement.
After she stated this, the diner went wild, there was so much going on! Some of them were stuck in shock. loud gasps ran out, and some of those people talked over each other trying to make sense of the situation,
"WHAT THE HELL?" The hyena chef yelled, dumbfounded
"Humans?! Impossible!!" The leopard behind the bar retorted
