"How long do you think it's gonna take?" I asked Tennyson.

"I wish I knew."

"What did you really think about this?"

"I thought they were fucking crazy. We had already lost James and so many others. At first, I was fuming mad, I didn't wanna risk Becky losing both dads or having this baby have no dad. Then I realized that they had a solid plan but I was still scared shitless. I put my faith in our people to get our people back. Steve was so excited about all of it, he couldn't stop talking about it when it was just us, I asked him not to bring it up in front of Becky." she said.

"Didn't want to get her hopes up?"

"Something like that." she sighed.

"She asleep?" I asked.

"Yeah, she was so excited to be here that it took me a while to get her settled. She knows that daddy Steve is gone to save the world again and that's got her all kinds of hyped up."

"She knows that her daddy is a superhero." I sighed now.

"So does Lena."

"Go sleep, your attempts to hide your yawns aren't fooling me. If they get back, I'll send Bucky to wake you up." I told her, winking.

"My men are coming home. Our men are coming home. I need to believe that, Kris, I need them to come back to me." She whispered, rubbing her belly.

"I really wish that I had the blind faith and optimism that you do. I want to believe it, I want to believe that they're gonna come back."

"Good night." She smiled softly.

Three days. We waited three days for an update. Tennyson is slowly starting to go crazy, baking up a storm and Rebecca is loving it. I missed her, I miss them all but I needed to leave. Then I stupidly come back for what is possibly nothing, for another heartbreak. For Sam, for just a sliver of hope that he'll come back to me. That's why I'm here.

"Kris ... come on Kris, wake up." I heard.

"Hmmm."

"Alright, I'm taking you to a room." Steve distantly said.

"Hmmm ... I'm in ... a room." I mumbled as he picked me up.

"Yeah, the living room at 4am ... you're not listening to me. You'll see when you wake up, rest now. Things are gonna get a lot better."

"Mhmm."

I heard some of his words but not all of them. Then I felt something soft under me, I turned over and fell asleep again. The sun woke me up and I honestly don't remember walking into the bedroom at all. Looking around, I realized that I'm in my old room. Somehow, I still have things here, I didn't even realize I left anything here. I took a quick shower and walked out to the living room and was surprised to find people.

Thor, Bruce, Clint, Tennyson, and Steve were sitting on the sofa. Tennyson was crying on Steve's lap and my heart sunk, despite the lack of faith I actually had in any of this crazy idea to begin with. Bruce looks bad, his arm is in a sling and it looks bad by itself, he just looks tired and small.

"Kris!" Tennyson said, getting off of Steve's lap and running over to hug me.

"It's okay." I said, rubbing her back as she continued to sob.

"He ... they ... they did it." she sobbed and it took me a second to process her words.

"What?"

"They ... did ... they did it." she sobbed.
