You stood in stunned silence as the King revealed the object the raiders had been after, a glittering engagement ring. Your mind whirled with questions, but before you could voice them, the King spoke.
"I have been pressured by the court to marry a lady of power," he said, his tone weary, "but I have no desire to marry for anything other than love. And when I saw you, My Lady, I knew that I had found someone special."
Your heart hammered in your chest as you tried to process what was happening. The King was asking you to be his betrothed? You, a simple peasant with no standing or wealth?
"I cannot accept, Your Grace," you said, your voice shaking slightly, "I am no royal. I could never be what you need me to be."
You feel a lump in your throat as he cups your face, his thumb gently caressing your cheek. He leans closer, and you can feel the warmth of his breath on your face. "Please, just call me Din," he says, his eyes locking with yours.
You nod, finding it difficult to speak. "Din," you manage to say, your voice barely above a whisper.
He smiles at you, and for a moment, you forget all your fears and worries. His smile is infectious, and you find yourself smiling back at him.
"You have a beautiful smile," he says, his eyes never leaving yours.
You feel your cheeks redden at the compliment, but you can't help but feel grateful for it. "Thank you," you reply, your voice barely audible.
Din takes a step back, but his hand lingers on your face for a moment longer before he drops it to his side.
"Please, think about it," he said, his voice low and urgent, "I will be in town for a few more days. If you change your mind, come find me. The ring will be here waiting for you."
And with that, he turned and left the room, leaving you standing there in shock.
For the rest of the day, you couldn't focus on anything else. The King's words echoed in your mind, his proposal ringing through your thoughts like a bell. You knew that marrying him would be a chance of a lifetime, an opportunity that would never come again.
But at the same time, you couldn't shake the feeling that it was all too good to be true. Could someone like you really be a queen? Could you really live up to the expectations that came with marrying a king?
As the sun began to set, you found yourself standing outside in the cool evening air, staring at the ring on the table in your cottage. It glittered in the fading light, a symbol of everything that the King was offering you.
You didn't know what to do, what to say. But as you looked up at the stars above, a sense of clarity washed over you. You didn't need to be a royal, or rich, or powerful, to be loved. All you needed was someone who saw you for who you truly were.
And as you closed your eyes and thought of the King's warm honey-brown eyes, his gentle touch, and his unwavering devotion, you knew that you had found that someone.
The next day as you walked through the town towards the King's lodgings, you felt a sense of purpose that you had never felt before. You were ready for whatever lay ahead, for the trials and triumphs that would come with being the Queen of Mandalor.
And as you stood before the King, your heart full of love and determination, you looked into his eyes and whispered his name.
"Din."
Din turned to face you, his eyes filled with warmth and affection. "My love," he said, taking your hand in his. "You've made up your mind then?"
You nodded, feeling a sense of peace settle over you. "I have," you replied, gazing up at him. "I want to be with you, Din. I want to be your Queen."
A smile lit up his face, and he pulled you close, wrapping his arms around you. "I'm so glad," he said, his voice low and husky. "You have no idea how much this means to me."
You leaned into him, feeling his warmth and strength surrounding you. For a moment, you simply stood there, lost in each other's embrace.
Din helped you onto the horse before mounting himself behind you. The warmth of his body behind yours sent shivers down your spine, and you couldn't help but lean back against him, enjoying the feel of his strong arms around you.
As he guided the horse through the forest, the silence between you was palpable. You could feel his breath on your neck and the scent of his cologne was intoxicating. You wanted nothing more than to turn around and kiss him, to feel his lips on yours.
But you knew that wasn't appropriate. You were on your way to the castle to become his betrothed, and you needed to behave accordingly.
As the forest cleared and you rode into the open countryside, Din spoke up. "Are you excited to be coming to the castle?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
You nodded, trying to keep your voice steady. "Yes, I am. It's all so new and different to me."
"I'm glad to hear it," he said, his hand sliding down your arm to rest on your waist. "I think you'll be very happy there."
His touch sent a jolt of electricity through you, and you couldn't help but turn your head to look at him. His eyes met yours, and you saw something there that you hadn't seen before. Something that made your heart race and your stomach flutter.
For a moment, you thought he was going to kiss you. You could feel his breath on your lips, and you closed your eyes, waiting for it to happen.
But then he pulled back, and you opened your eyes to find him looking at you with a small smile. "We're almost there," he said, turning his attention back to the road ahead.
You let out a shaky breath, feeling a mix of disappointment and relief. You knew that things couldn't progress too quickly, but that didn't stop you from wanting him more.
As you approached the castle gates, you saw the guards standing at attention. Din dismounted first, then helped you down from the horse. His hand lingered on your waist for a moment before he stepped away.
"Come on," he said, gesturing for you to follow him. "We'll get you settled in."
You nodded, taking a deep breath and following him through the gates and into the castle courtyard. The grandeur of the place was overwhelming, and you couldn't help but feel a little out of place.
But then Din turned to you, his eyes full of warmth and affection. "Don't worry," he said. "You'll get used to it. And you'll always have me by your side."
You smiled at him, feeling your heart swell with love for this man. "Thank you," you said softly.
Din led you to a big room at the end of the corridor. "This will be your chamber," he said. "I'll leave you to unpack your things."
"Thank you," you said again, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him that you couldn't put into words.
As he turned to leave, you called out to him. "Din," you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
He turned back to look at you, his eyes searching yours. "Yes?" he asked, his voice gentle.
"I want my brother to come with me," you said, your voice gaining strength. "I can't leave him behind. He's all I have left."
Din nodded a small smile on his lips. "Of course," he said. "I'll send someone to fetch him. You can count on me to take care of both of you."
You felt a wave of relief wash over you.
