As the days passed, you could feel the tension in the air growing. It was as if the very walls of the castle were closing in on you, suffocating you with their disapproval. The courtiers made no secret of their displeasure at the King's choice of bride, and their disdainful glances and whispered comments made you feel like an outsider in your own home.
Din was clearly feeling the pressure too, and he had become increasingly irritable and snappish. He would bark orders at the servants and slam doors when he thought no one was watching. You tried to be patient with him, understanding that the weight of the kingdom rested heavily on his shoulders, but it was hard not to take it personally when he lashed out at you.
One morning, you found yourself on the receiving end of one of his outbursts. You had innocently suggested a way to appease the disgruntled courtiers, but he had taken it as a personal attack on his leadership. He had raised his voice at you, his face contorted with anger, and you had cowered in fear, feeling like a small mouse facing down a ferocious lion.
"I can't believe you would even suggest something so ridiculous!" Din shouted, his voice echoing through the chamber.
You tried to explain yourself, "I was only trying to find a way to appease the courtiers, my lord."
"Appease them? Do you not trust my leadership? Do you think I'm incapable of handling the affairs of this kingdom?"
"No, no, of course not!" you replied, trying to keep your voice steady. "I just thought-"
"You thought wrong," he interrupted, his voice still raised. "You have no idea what it takes to lead a kingdom. You have no right to question my decisions."
You felt tears welling up in your eyes, but you tried to remain composed. "I'm sorry, my lord. I didn't mean to-"
"Just leave," he cut you off, his tone cold and dismissive. "I have more important matters to attend to."
You bowed your head and quickly left the chamber, feeling humiliated and hurt. As you walked away, you couldn't help but wonder if this was what married life would be like with Din.
Later that day, as you sat in your chambers, nursing your wounded pride, you heard a soft knock on the door. It was Din, his expression contrite and apologetic. "I am sorry, my love," he said, coming over to sit beside you on the bed. "I should not have spoken to you like that. The court's disapproval weighs heavily on me, and I fear I am taking it out on you."
You looked up at him, still feeling the sting of his harsh words, but also feeling a twinge of sympathy for the burden he was carrying. "It's alright," you said, your voice still shaky with emotion. "I understand how difficult this is for you. But please, don't take it out on me. I'm here to support you, not to be a punching bag for your frustrations."
Din nodded, his eyes filled with regret. "You're right, my love. I promise to do better. I know I can be quick to anger, but that's no excuse for treating you poorly."
You reached out and took his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I forgive you," you said, a small smile playing at the corners of your lips. "But I hope you'll remember this next time you feel like lashing out at me."
Din smiled back at you, relief washing over his face. "I will," he said, leaning in to press a soft kiss to your forehead. "And I'll make it up to you, I promise."
You leaned into him, feeling his warm embrace envelop you in a sense of comfort and security. "I know you will," you said, closing your eyes and savouring the feeling of his arms around you. "I trust you."
You could see the exhaustion etched into the lines of his face, and your heart ached for him. "It's alright," you said, reaching out to take his hand. "I understand how stressful this must be for you. We'll find a way to make them see that I'm worthy of being your wife."
