After Hiccup and I returned to our tent with Eclipse and Toothless, dawn had already broken over the horizon. When we arrived at the campsite, we were pleasantly surprised to see all of Berk packing up their things to finish the flight to the Isle.
Heather crossed paths with us, smiling as she took in our dreary, slightly worn-out figures as we left the forest line, "Oh. someone hasn't slept." She remarked simply, moving toward Windshear to pack her tent and supplies onto her back.
"Yeah, well. Configuring a map to an isle of legend will do that to you," Hiccup fired back playfully as he stretched his back, "And none of us'll be getting any sleep until we find the Isle, and Tora and Freya get us there in one piece." He patted my back softly and I grinned at him, gathering all my papers together and slipping them into my notebook.
"Well, I think we're on the right track then," I nodded, sliding the remaining bits of supplies I had yet to pack up into Eclipse's saddle bag, "I think we'll make it there before sundown today."
"Hey, well what d'ya think of that?" Hiccup grinned, "Yeah?" He pecked my head before mounting Toothless, preparing to take off.
"Alright, let's go." He cheered as he flew off into the sunrise. Everyone else followed suit right behind him.
As we flew on, the sun slowly rising above our heads, I was jittering nervously as I frantically flicked through my notebook, still skimming through my notes ceaselessly.
Eret came to hover next to me on Skullcrusher, "Well, well, well, someone's excited." He crooned teasingly.
"Uh-huh," I mused, hardly hearing him, "first time back home in twelve years. I'm ecstatic."
"Only we're the one's going crazy," Gobber complained, "The sooner we get to that Isle. The better."
Tora swooped down toward Gobber on Snowflake, snorting, "Yeah, but to do that, we need peace and quiet, so Freya here can read her bloody map."
Gobber grumbled his agreement as he peeled off to join the rest of the Berkians in formation behind the riders.
However, as things were smooth with us for the time being, Val was having a little less of an easy run where she was doubling back to scout for us.
Fog was spreading across the area she was scouting over. Horror gripped her throat when she discovered the entire fleet of Warlord's ships had followed us, accompanied by Grimmel's airship. As soon as she spotted the airship, one of the Deathgrippers surged forward to attack her.
It was closely followed by one of its packmates.
"Watch out!" Valka ordered the Stormcutter breathlessly. Cloudjumper easily grasped one of the incoming beasts and flung it away toward its companion.
"Go, Cloudjumper" His rider urged frantically as Grimmel whistled sharply, deterring his pets from their assault. They stopped short, and Valka and Cloudjumper escaped in just the nick of time.
While we were flying toward the Isle, Eclipse perked up suddenly, sensing something following us. Similar to when Sky was tailing us after we left Berk.
She cooed as she looked around, her ears perking when she thought she saw Sky, but it was only Ivy and Shade tussling in the sky below us. But when a soft warble caught her sister's attention, she immediately flew after them, causing me to yelp in surprise.
