A LOT had changed, and I was still coming to terms with them even though it's been three years. I thought I had closed that chapter, but I was wrong because I had to go back and it wasn't on good terms. Grandma had passed on and we all had to be at the cabin in the woods for her funeral. By all I meant, Mom, who just got out of jail, Dad, Jane, Tony, Uncle Mike, and finally Aunt Vera.
But being back in the same place with the people I called family—half of which were estranged—was a worry the size of a pin in the ocean of dread that now engulfed me.
As I stared at the letter in my hand that I'd just received that morning by mail, my mind was having a hard time processing what it read.
Clarissa dear,
If you're seeing this letter, then it means I am no more, for I designed it to reach you if I couldn't pass on the information myself. No matter what you may hear, my death was not of a natural cause and the boy who was close to your heart wasn't gone as well.
I cannot divulge all the information in this letter, for I can not say it would reach you untampered.
Clarissa, you must come home and the sad truth is, you have to go back. You can only leave the cave of memories after completing all three chances. But you must prepare yourself.
