I can't sleep for the whole night a couple times I thought about making a run for it. I settled for waiting until 5:30 to call Josie. I watched the minutes on my clock tick down for over an hour. I didn't want to worry her especially because I was missing from bed. My finger hovered over the call button for a good minute or so but I decide it would be better to just text her an lie and text her that I'm on my morning run in case she wonders why I'm gone. I scroll through the short list of contacts in my phone. I'm not calling my family because they'll think something is wrong because I never call. I don't want to call Emma because she'll try to schedule a meeting with me and she'll tell Alaric about a frantic phone call. I stare at the only other contact in my phone.
I hover my finger over the call button for a couple minutes. I think about all the numbers in my phone and it's clear she's the safest option right now. I hold my finger to the call button and then slowly released it. I secretly hoped she wouldn't answer but within the minute she picked up.
"Hope" Caroline yawns
"I'm sorry for calling you so early" I press my self into the bathroom wall.
"I said you could call me anytime hope. What's wrong?" She asks.
I hesitate and my stomach climbs into my throat "I need you, I'm scared I need you" I shakily breathe.
"Do I need to call Alaric or Emma? Are you safe right now?"
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have called" Tears start dripping down my cheeks. "Please don't tell Alaric or Emma." I wipe my eyes.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She asks softly.
"I was almost..I was.. He almost...I was almost attacked.. I was attacked. I need you Caroline" I start crying more and a lump forms in my throat. " I'm scared" I sniffle.
"Do you need me to get someone to come get you?" She asks softer.
"It wouldn't do any good I'm not at the school" I wipe my eyes.
"Where are you right now?" She asks quietly.
"I'm in a motel bathroom," I answer blankly.
"Are you safe?" She asks seriously trying to hold back any shock.
"He's in the room I think he's asleep." I put my ear to the bathroom door.
"Keep me on the phone, can you place the phone to the door so I can here?" She asks
"Ok" I set the phone to the door.
"He's asleep, I know this is risky but do you think you can make a run for it?" She asks
"Maybe," I hold the door knob in my hands. "I'm scared"
"I could call and send Alaric to get you" she offers
"No, I can do this" I sniffle and unlock the door.
I walk as carefully and quietly as I can trying not to step on any squeaky floorboards. I grab the door handle carefully and I fling the door open and take off sprinting. I don't look behind me I just run into the town. I finally stop when I'm inside a grocery store.
"Hope?" Caroline asks.
"I'm safe" I choke on air. " I saw a bus station I'm going to get on the next bus into mystic falls."
"What's your phone at?" She asks.
"70%" I answer.
"Keep me on for however long you need." I hear her scrambling in the background. "I'm taking the next plane over"
I notice that I'm starting to get weird looks and I realize I'm only in my bra and jeans. I try to cover my chest with my arms as I make my way to the closest clothing section and throw a hoodie on and rip the tags off
"What's going on, what's that noise?" She asks.
"I needed a sweatshirt I wasn't wearing really anything" I muttered before running out of the store and into the bus stop enclosure.
I looked down at my bare feet that were scratched up but the rough concrete.
