What did I do?

Max P.O.V

As I walked to my room, I thought about how Hailey reacted to me being in her bed. I am honestly surprised at the way she reacted. After all the moments we shared together I didn't think it would be such a big deal that I fell asleep next to her. It's not like I was under the blanket with her, and I didn't change her clothes or anything. I literally just laid her down in her bed and she wouldn't let go of my neck. I don't know what to do with her mixed signals. Maybe I am just doing too much but having her so close and not doing anything about it is almost unbearable. Once I got to my room, I opened the door and found Mother sitting on my bed waiting for me.

"Why hello there sunshine." Mother said with a devilish smile, "Did you and Hailey have a good night's sleep?" she asked.

"Don't say that too loud!" I shushed her.

"Max don't worry. Your dad is downstairs making breakfast, I sent him down there when I noticed you weren't in your room. He doesn't know a thing." Mother assured me.

"I just fell asleep after bringing her into bed. She asked me to not leave her and so I laid down to assure her so she could go back to sleep and I passed out." I explained sitting down next to her. "Turns out she was just talking in her sleep though. She didn't remember asking me to stay." I said with a sigh.

"Did she freak out on you?" Mother asked.

"No, but she asked why I was in her bed," I answered.

"And did that hurt you that she didn't remember?" she asked back.

"Yes," I replied with a sigh.

"Young love can be rough even without being in the circumstances you two are in," she told me as she gave me a hug. "I'm almost one hundred percent sure that she feels the same way as you Max. I know I raised a kind, caring, and respectful young man. You have always been so much like your father even without even meeting him till now." She continued.

"Do you think he would ever accept it if we were ever to actually be together?" I asked her.

"With some time and thought I know he will." She answered.

"How much time and does she actually want this are the real questions I need answers to" I replied with a sigh.

"I can't give you those answers, but I am going to be there with you every step of the way. I promise. It's my turn to get back to taking care of you and your needs instead of you having the world on your shoulders. Enjoy being a teenager." Mother said to me.

"I am trying to," I responded with another sigh and laid my head on her shoulder and she wrapped an arm around me giving me a squeeze.

"Being a teenager isn't easy Max. This is part of your life where you go through all sorts of feelings as you find what you want to do with your life." She explained.

"I already know what I want. I am just not so sure anymore that I am what she wants." I added.

"Why don't you just give this a rest and come down for breakfast? I can make you some fresh orange juice just the way you like it." She suggested.

"I'm not that hungry right now. Maybe after I shower, I will be." I answered with a shrug as I got up from my bed.

"Well, alright. We will be downstairs when you are ready." She said as she also got up from the bed to leave. "I love you, Max," she said at the doorway.

"I love you too, Mother," I replied with a small smile. She nodded and walked away, closing the door behind her. I went through the small amount of clothes I had and grabbed a simple white t-shirt, boxers, and jean shorts before jumping into the shower. I tried to clear my mind with a cold shower, but it was to no avail. The more I thought about it, the more I felt I might have scared Hailey from wanting to try this out. After the shower and getting dressed I decided that maybe going for a ride around town might clear my mind. I went downstairs to grab the motorcycle keys and I saw Mother and Dad sitting at the table alone. "Where's Hailey?" I asked.

"She hasn't come down yet," Dad said with a sigh. "I hope she is ok. She has been through a lot." He said shaking his head. Finding out that Hailey still hadn't come out of her room only made me feel worse. Could I have made things more complicated for her? The last thing I wanted was to cause more trouble. "Anyways, are you going to sit down and eat with us?" he asked bringing me back from my thoughts.

"I was just going to go out for a quick ride. I will eat when I come back." I answered avoiding that knowing gaze from Mother.

"Oh, okay. Just be careful driving around." He replied.

"I will, bye," I said and waved bye before quickly exiting the house. I got on the motorcycle, put the key in, started it up, and sped off down the road, wanting to get as far away from the house as possible.
