"You add meaning to my life and yet, you subtract some cash from my wallet."
--------------------------------
Today started like any normal day. Kajal arrived first thing in the morning to take care of Veenu. As usual, her driver/flatmate, took his hour to get ready for consultations, leaving Sai to ponder over her wardrobe. She was a sight to see right now, fresh out of the shower with a towel hiding her soaked hair, and a pair of blue light glasses sitting on her face. She had formal dresses on the hangers, sarees too fancy to wear to work, and a ball gown Prem claims she bought during one of her emotional late evening online shopping sprees.
She shuffles through the drawers of the massive closet, and comes upon a sequined saree. That is definitely not suitable for work. Sighing louder than intended, she sits down on the chair by the window.
"Why did I get rid of my maternity clothes the moment I came home with Vinayak." she questions herself. The moment the words escape her mouth, her phone lights up, displaying a message from Prem.
Thought you're in need of some advice
Breaking News Prem, I don't need your advice🙃
You bought a white and purple striped saree 2 weeks ago
It's under the couch rnYou expect me to go get that in my condition?!
I'll hand it to you. 🙄
Nvm, I'll get it
Too late😐
He knocks on her door, the second the message goes through. Sai walks over, and opens it.
The strong smell of cologne and expensive perfumes seeped into her nostrils, tempting her to scrunch up her nose in response.
"If I had smelt any more of that cologne of yours, Prem, I would've thrown up right now." Sai gags, covering her nose and mouth with her hand. "The fact that I now have to deal with that in the car...'
Prem guiltily purses his lips, and holds out the box with the saree in it. "Sorry."
"You better be sorry." Sai shakes her head, grabs the box, and opens it. "And thank you for getting me this."
He smiles, and waves it off. "It was either this or I'd have to help you get up from the floor."
"True."
"Well, you need to get ready then Miss Joshi! Hurry up or we're going to be late." Prem urges, looking at his watch. "We've got less than an hour, and we still have to go through morning traffic."
"It's going to take me 5 minutes Prem, but you still need to do another hundred things before walking out that door." Sai argues, shaking her head. "C'mon get moving Doctor Saab!"
He obeys her with a grin, and disappears down the hallway to his room. The sound of it shutting allows Sai to relax.
Taking a second look at the saree before her, she realized that she had never ordered this. It was of fine quality, but she hadn't gotten this. Then it dawned on her.
Had he gotten this for her?
...
Prem wiped his forehead clean of any invisible sweat that had managed to gather. This was the 3rd time he's done this. If there is one thing he has realized about women in his 4 years of marriage, and the morning dilemmas Sai goes through on a daily basis, is that they can't have enough clothes.
So one day on his way back from work, he stopped by the boutique Sai gets her holiday clothes from, and simply asked her to get a few very nice sarees Sai could wear to work. Being a man, he knew none of that fancy stuff, but he decided on the colors, and then paid the lady a fair amount before bringing the dresses home.
