"Perhaps if that human heart breaks, the Time Lord will emerge." Baines retorted.

A golden energy shimmered and the Family turned their heads quickly in it's direction.

Me and Martha used it to our advantage. Martha got a gun off Jenny and used her as a shield while she aimed the gun at Baines. Thanks to her actions, I got free and stepped in front of John.

"All right! One more move and I shoot." Martha warned.

"Oh, the maid is full of fire." Baines smiled.

"And you can shut up!" she fired the gun at the ceiling.

"Careful, Son of Mine. This is all for you so that you can live forever." Clark warned slowly.

"Shoot you down." Baines pointed the gun at Martha.

"Try it. We'll die together."

"Would you really pull the trigger?" Baines questioned her.

"Do you really want to find out? If I were you, I'd stand down." I glared at him, but he didn't even look at me.

"Looks too scared."

"Scared and holding a gun's a good combination. Do you want to risk it?" Martha asked him.

I couldn't help but feel pride. I always admired Martha in this scene. And so I added: "I know I wouldn't." while still standing in front of John.

The Family lowered their guns and Joan ran past me into John's arms.

"Doctor, get everyone out. There's a door at the side. It's over there. Go on." Martha ordered while still pointing the gun at Baines.

"Do it, Mister Smith. She means you!" I pushed him lightly in the door's direction.

Thankfully, Joan caught on: "Do what she said. Everybody out, now. Don't argue, Mister Jackson. They're mad. That's all we need to know. Susan, Miss Cooper, outside, all of you."

"Move yourself, boy. Back to the school, quickly." John helped to hurry them out.

"And you. Go on. Just shift."

"What about you?" John looked at Martha.

"Mister Smith, I think you should escort your lady friend to safety, don't you? Now move!" I raised my voice at him. After a bit of hesitation, he finally ran away.

Jenny got away from Martha and tried to get the gun back, but I pushed her towards the Family and away from Martha.

"Don't try anything. I'm warning you, or Sonny boy gets it."

"She's almost brave, this one." Baines said and they all started towards us.

"Oh but the short-haired one is feisty. I should have taken her form. Much more fun. So much spirit." Jenny retorted.

Martha stepped in front of me as if she wanted to protect me and backed us away as the Family moved forward.

"What happened to Jenny? Is she gone?" Martha asked her.

"She is consumed. Her body's mine."

"You mean she's dead."

"Yes. And she went with precious little dignity. All that screaming."

A scarecrow grabbed me from behind and pulled me away from Martha, who yelled and pointed the gun in my direction. "Let her go!"

"Martha, watch out!" I tried to warn her, but Baines took her gun and kicked her to the ground. I somehow pushed myself away from my scarecrow prison and punched him in the face. Martha stood up and went to my side, when I felt a hit in the back of my head and I fell to the floor.
