"the pain stays longer than anyone ever did."Iris paced around her room. The smiths, "Louder Than Bombs" album was blasting in her ears. Her first week of homework was sprawled across the floor and Kiki was walking all over it. Playfully lifting the corners of the papers with her paws.
It was currently 6 in the morning on a Sunday and Iris hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. Her first week of school was dreadful, An understatement of that.
The only positive thing she could note was the new friends she made.
Iris let out an exhausted sigh and moved towards her window. It was symmetrical to the window on her neighbour's home.
"Asleep" by the Smiths started playing and Iris thought it was ironic. She hadn't been able to sleep all night.
She looked around her room. It still was quite bare. The default white walls stared back at her. It felt more like an Ikea than a bedroom. She made a mental note to go buy posters and decorations later in the day.
Iris was about to turn around when suddenly the blinds that covered her neighbour's window, opened.
Her eyes widened as she saw the sight before her.
It was Eli.
The sweet boy she met at school.
He was shirtless walking around his room. His black sweatpants hung low on his waist. It looked as if he had just gotten out of the shower. His wet hair confirmed her thoughts. Iris couldn't help but gaze at his abs. His build appeared to be slim but firm. He definitely didn't seem like the type to be hiding that under his sweaters.
A yawn escaped from his lips as he picked up a shirt from the floor. He tossed it over his head and pushed it down over his stomach.
Iris felt her cheeks heat up and she looked away, embarrassed that she was acting like a stalker. Kiki made eye contact with her owner and she tilted her little head. Iris shook her head at her cat.
Iris didn't want Eli to know they were neighbours. Well, not like this. Not by her standing there watching him through her window. He would definitely think she was a creep. Anyone would.
The red-haired girl shook her head once again and decided to start her day early, leaving behind the thoughts and images of Eli behind.

"You're up early!" Brylan exclaimed, finishing taking a sip of hot coffee. She turned around to face Iris fully and smiled, throwing one hand around her hip.
Iris just groaned and picked up a cup of her own. She poured the dark liquid into her cup and let the smell fill her nostrils. She had always adored black coffee, although her mothers always disagreed and made a face whenever she would drink it straight.
"So, what do you think?" Brylan moved her arms to motion toward their house which was beginning to feel and look like an actual home.
Iris smiled. It truly was coming together nicely. It could never replace their home back in Canada, but it was still special.
Kiki followed suit, taking in her new home. Iris picked her up, petting her soft fur. She purred in her arms.
"Oh, Iris I forgot to tell you." Brylan interrupted her daughter reminiscing.
"Mhm." She took a sip from her dark coffee with her free hand and turned around.
