Texas looked across the meeting room, for once there was no argument, maybe because he was too flustered. Something big had happened, and it was eating away at him.
Not in the bad way, he actually quite liked the recent change, it was one he had wanted for a while but it made it hard to get words out that weren't just small laughs.
It felt like he wasn't meant for it, his partner was leagues above him by basically every standard.
California was pretty, California was smart, California was somehow managing to keep together.
More than just a dream
More than just a dream
It felt like something he had dreamed about came into reality, something about it felt unreal.
40 days and 40 nights
All the nights he stayed awake thinking about how stupid and wrong he was equated to something.
The days that passed on the calendar finally mean something.
I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life
Every day that he just wanted to hold the other when he was down, all of that felt so real now.
All the days I waited for you
Every time he had to wait, and hoped for the other to pick up hints or just acknowledge how stupidly in love he was.
You know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you
He thought back to how Nevada would joke about how hopeless his situation was.
"Look man, you fell for that idiot?" Nevada ran his hand through their hair, letting out a small chuckle.
"Isn't he—" Texas looked at his friend of many years, Nevada, the one who was partially to blame for this mess of emotions, though he was cut off by Nevada placing his hand on Texas's lips.
"Don't get me wrong! Cal's a smart dude, but when it comes to people liking him... She could do better." Nevada lifted his finger, and looked away, with a slight disappointment in their voice.
"Are yer saying Cal's oblivious?" Texas leaned back into his chair, lifting his head up slightly to show Nevada signs he was paying attention.
"Yes. So oblivious, it's gotten past the point of funny and to the point of downright sad. I've seen that idiot have someone say they love them and then think it was platonic." Nevada let out a small sigh, looking at the ceiling.
'Cause you were out of my league
All the things I believed
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
He thought back to that night. The night he finally told California every emotion that had been plaguing his brain.
It took him months to finally put those words together.
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die, don't wake me
'Cause you are more than just a dream
Texas took a step out onto the balcony.
"Hey, Cali?" Texas placed a hand behind his neck, hoping the other wouldn't notice how nervous of a wreck he was. In his other hand, he held a surprise for California.
