The Plague doctor walked along the dusty paths of the settlement, hands clasped behind her back. She was thinking of how far the place had come, amazed. She had seen the great walls and buildings of the roman empire constructed, even contributing to the creation of some, and it had taken many many years to do so, but even still this little town of 350 was busy and bustling, with many buildings and plenty of equipment. It was amazing to think the settlement was so big, only starting from a little airfield and growing to the size of a small town.
The aircraft had helped too, saving many of the inhabitants and dropping flares for them to follow back to the base.
The doctor was glad she and Rin had discovered the airbase, for they'd be dead had they not.
Rin pulled the doctor up by her arm.
"We are leaving!!" she had shouted, pulling Plague along with her to get Plague on her feet and running. They had held their plateau for long enough and it was about to be overrun, hopping off of the side with the least demons and hitting the ground running. Soon, however, they heard the howl of several aircraft.
They heard bombs fall and massive guns ring out their musical beat, looking up just in time to see the three aircraft pass overhead, wiggling their wings in a friendly manner and dropping flares on the way to mark the direction of the airbase. Rin was able to identify them as an A-10 Warthog and a surprisingly well kept Stuka, both escorting a XH558 Bomber.
The doctor was astonished, and her eyes showed it behind the mask.
Rin, slinging her LMG across her back, spoke first. "They dropped flares and wiggled friendly. Maybe we should follow them?"
The doctor nodded, too stunned to speak, and started to follow the flares, too astonished to speak at the moment.
When they arrived at the airbase, Rin was starving and almost dying of thirst - The plague doctor did not require food and water to live (although it was much appreciated) - and the soldiers had rushed to aid them.
Rin accidentally bumped into the Doctor, knocking her out of her trip down memory lane, and the Doctor looked at Rin. "Hello, Rin."
"Oh, Plaguey! Sorry about bumping you, I'm still a little tired." Rin apologized, giving the Doctor a friendly and sincere smile, her eyes still half lidded from just waking up about 5 minutes ago.
The Doctor smiled. "It's alright, Rin. I could use some more sleep myself to be fair, but there is much work to be done. Too much work."
Rin nodded in agreement.
Kolgod, finally catching them with his eyes, had walked over with a pot of hot coffee and a tray with three mugs, one with powdered creamer and sugar in the bottom, and 2 with ground reaper peppers in the bottom. Kolgod poured coffee into all three of them, the ones with reaper peppers gaining a red-orange color while the one with creamer and sugar got a lighter color to it.
Rin smiled and took hers, leaning gently into Kolgod for support, while the Doctor took hers, appreciating the creamer and sugar Kolgod had added. Kolgod put down the tray and empty coffee pot on a nearby stack of metal beams that were not in use, removing his own coffee from the tray.
"Thank you, Prince." The doctor spoke, a mischievous glint in her eyes and undoubtedly a smirk behind that mask. She knew Kolgod didn't like being called a prince, so it had become a point of joking between the two.
Rin smiled and Kolgod chuckled quietly, responding "You're quite welcome, Little Doctor." The doctor was barely taller than Rin, only being about chin height on Kolgod while Rin was collarbone height on him.
They all had a light chuckle from that, settling to small talk while they nursed their coffee.
