The sound of the tires burning against the road was the last sound I remember hearing before the car hit something violently.
I opened my eyes to find an eerie-looking mansion gate with a fog-covered mansion standing tall a few hundred yards behind it. Not a single light lit inside. So was the sky, it was just as dark as the time of my life.
The car had hit the gate, crushing the bonnet completely. Dad was laying still in the driver's seat, blood dripped from the side of his forehead.
"D-dad..?" I sobbed softly, shaking him slightly. Thankfully he groaned as he opened his eyes to take in the scenario.
"Shit..." He cursed under his breath. He hurriedly undid his seatbelt before undoing mine and getting out of the car to run over to my side and pull me out of the passenger seat as he carried through what little gap had the collision created with the gate.
A mere seven-year-old me did not understand what was happening. I only felt the fear in the air since the time my father picked me out of my bed in the middle of the night way past my bedtime and ran out of the burning house.
We ran past the cemetery that should have been a lovely garden in any other mansion as big as this and up the stairs onto the porch that had dust collected as thick as the cream on my upper lip after finishing my milkshake.
The massive door before us had an unsettling-looking doorknocker instead of the doorbell.
Dad set me on the ground and pulled some things out of his bag. He set up a candle and lit it up before looking over his shoulder hurriedly. I followed after his gaze to try to see what he was looking at only to find out the car was smoking by the gate.
When I turned around I found him drawing some patterns on the ground, some circles, some unknown characters, and some random lines, all the while whispering something. Or more like reciting. He opened the page of the book that had flipped over due to the wind while once again checking over his shoulder.
And this time when I did see behind, I saw shadows of a huge entity in the streetlights. All of a sudden, the streetlights from before started to switch off one by one. And it all happened so fast that it scared me to no end, especially when the huge gust of black wind with an inhumane roar gushed past me making me scream my throat out as I hugged my dad.
On the other hand, Dad continued doing whatever he was doing and dropped some blood on the lines right before the candle went off, leaving everything in the dark.
The next time I woke up, I was being carried out in someone's hands. The person was wearing a yellow hat and a yellow and black jacket.
The red and blue lights blinked in the surroundings. There were many more people around here, but it still did not make me feel safe.
I wanted to go back to my dad. Turning my head I found my dad still on the porch as he was screaming. His screams sounded painful and spine-chilling as four more people tried to hold him down as he thrashed and thrashed.
A tree in the cemetery was burning while people were trying to extinguish the fire that had completely reached the top. But that was not something I was even thinking about.
"Dad!" I shouted reaching out to him with my hand. I wanted to get down and run back to him. Away from everyone else. When the person carrying me did not show any signs of letting me go, I bit his upper arm rather very hard making him hiss in pain as he immediately set me down on the ground to look at the place I had bit him. And I took the chance that was given to me. I took off like the rabbit that my dad always called me while we had the running race, and wheezed through the people in the way, just to make it back to my dad. I regretted it immediately.
The sound he was making was not something that my dad would make. It sounded like the T-rex from Jurassic Park. He was moving like something I had never seen before. His skin had black lines all over it, his eyes closed and the size of the mouth he had managed to open, I bet that I could even fit my water bottle into it without much difficulty.
All of a sudden, he opened his eyes which made me gasp in fright and reflexively step back. The same was the reaction of the people around him. They immediately let go of him and stepped back. Some even tripped back yelling, "Holy shit!"
That was all it took before Dad was standing right in front of me, on all his four. His eyes were completely white as he stared into mine. There were wounds and blood all over his face. His skin had turned grey.
I was not sure if the man standing before me was my father or not.
I stood frozen, with wide eyes. Something warm seeped down my stockings and legs as I stood there visibly shivering but unable to scream even when I wanted to.
"Non erit tibi," He whispered in a strange voice that sounded more like multiple women saying it together rather than my Dad.
He opened his mouth and puked something black and nasty out onto me while I screamed and screamed. Somebody grabbed me out of the way and others held my Dad back as he laughed loudly and evilly.
We watched as he easily pushed the two men away who were holding him and ran towards the railing that separated the cemetery and the pathway, jumped over it, and ran towards the burning tree.
He pushed the people who were trying to extinguish it and jumped to grab the tree trunk and climbed up. All the time laughing like a lunatic.
And I watched absolutely terrified, as I watched my Dad burn in front of me.
The person who was hold me turned my head away making me now look at the circles, lines and characters that my dad had drawn on the porch along with the unlit candle.
