This section of our guide serves to answer a number of frequently asked questions about Canis. If you have questions that are not found here, you can talk to representatives at CanidConnections.org . The questions below are divided into different sections.

== Effects of the Transformation ==

Am I going to turn into a dog?  ▼

No. After changing, all Canid people remain bipedal and plantigrade, retain their original level of intelligence, and nearly all are still able to speak as well as they did before. Canid people change to have several Canine features, but most remain completely capable of functioning in normal society.

When I transform, will I start acting like a dog?  ▼

It depends on the individual. All Canid people will experience some amount of new Canine instincts. Panting and tail wagging are examples. Some people may choose to exercise greater control on these instincts, and find their desire to do them subside. Others may have a higher than average disposition to canine instincts.
This is especially true of those who changed because they had the original cancer treatment, and grew up with the canine DNA influencing their behavior. This may lead to more uncommon behaviors, such as barking at people, feeling a desire to fetch tennis balls, etc. Much of the time these behaviors, while potentially embarrassing, are completely benign. If you are concerned about this however, and want to develop better restraint, you can find professionals to work with you on our website or app.

When I transform, will I develop any new food allergies?  ▼

While dogs have a number of things that are dangerous for them to eat, most Canid people do not develop these. The biggest specific problem for Canid people is chocolate. Most Canid people can eat milk chocolate, but dark chocolate causes issues for most. However, it is not often poisonous. In the worst cases, it will lead to vomiting, but rarely anything more serious.
Newly developed allergies are an important matter your physician will go over when meeting following the completion of your changes. You will be tested for various allergies so you won't have any lack of warning on the subject.

Can I eat dog food?  ▼

While dog food is made of things that are technically safe for people to eat, it is not made with the same requirements as human food. Thus, it may lead to foodborne illness. Some Canid people have tried dog food and report that it tastes good to them - and while Canid people do have shifts in taste that may make dog food more palatable, the internal organs match much more closely to a human. If you still want to try dog food, there are multiple brands of novelty dog food for Canid people, that you'll find are probably much more delicious, without the worry of unpleasant complications.

After I transform, will I only have the life expectancy of a dog? ▼

According to all studies thus far, the answer is most likely no. While it will take decades of research to understand in depth how the Canis Virus affects long term health, testing has revealed no signs of lower life expectancy. Canid people do not have a different life expectancy than the average human for your demographic, though sometimes complications during transformation can affect long term health in other ways. On the whole, due to the majority of internal anatomy being human rather than canine in nature, researchers expect Canid people to live healthy lives, especially with advancements in aging treatments.

Is there a cure for Canis? ▼

There is no "cure" for Canis, just as there is no cure for other problems with the body. There are a number of treatments depending on circumstance and any pre-existing conditions in the patient. Some treatments, with time, are able to fully reverse a Canis transformation. However, not everyone is able to respond to such treatments. Notably, individuals who contracted Canis early, who originally received the virus when it was a treatment for childhood cancer, have not been able to revert their changes. Individuals with conditions such as heart disease also may not be able to revert changes, due to complications from the treatment.
