It's been 466 days. 15 Months and 10 days. 11 184 hours.
It's been that long since Riley went missing. That's how long it's been since anyone has seen her. Since anyone has heard from her. That's how long it's been since I've seen her. It's been that long since I've seen my best friend.
And i really miss her.
It was an ordinary day. June 5, 2022. We had school, everything was normal. Riley went home by bike like any other day. Only the only difference from every other day was that she didn't go home. She never came home. And she was never seen again.
At first everyone thought Riley was rebelling, and had just gone to a party. Or that she had just run away from home because she had argued with her parents. But I knew it wasn't right. Riley would never run away. Riley wouldn't even dare.
After a week, they finally began the search for Riley when they realized she hadn't just run away. When they realized no one had heard from her. And that no one had seen her either.
3 days later they found her bike in the woods. Totally broken, as if it had been hit by a car. But other than that, the bike looked perfect, no dirt on the wheels. They examined it thoroughly and hoped they could find a clue. But they found nothing. Literally nothing, not even Riley's fingerprints.
Wich was odd.
After 3 months of searching and finding nothing, the police stopped searching. After 3 months, they gave up on Riley. They said she was probably out of the country, or probably already buried somewhere. Since they hadn't found any clues at all, they assumed Riley was dead.
While they just didn't even try their best to look for her. They just didn't want to admit that they weren't good at their job.
After 5 months, they stopped putting the search message on television and radio. After 5 months people started putting up missing cat posters over Riley her missing poster. After 5 months, everyone gave up hope.
And after 6 months, people stopped talking about Riley, as if she had simply disappeared from the earth. As if she was just never there. Everyone acted as if Riley May Addams didn't exist. Everyone forgot about her and went on with their lives.
But not me, every day I try to find out what happened to my best friend. Every day I walk the route she biked home, hoping to find a hint that we overlooked all this time. Every day I try to find out what happened to Riley.
Because she can't just be forgotten. We should not pretend that everything is normal, as if nothing ever happened. We're not supposed to forget her.
