I opened my eyes.
The ceiling fan spun quietly, and the room was dark. I looked at my alarm clock, and it read; "7:23 P.M".
'My nap was only a half an hour long...' I thought. 'I wish it would've been longer.'
I sat up, blood rushing into my head, making my vision spin for a second. I pulled my legs off of bed, then stood up.
I walked to my dresser, pulling out a hair brush from the top drawer. I skimmed it through my pink hair, catching any tangles that got in the way.
Then I looked in the mirror.
My eyes looked tired, with eye bags hanging underneath them. I hated my eyes.
My nose was small and bumpy like goblin skin. I hated my nose.
My lips were chapped and pale, I wish I had more Chapstick around... I hated my lips.
I hated my face. Everything about it made me shrivel up.
Suddenly, I heard a knock at the front door. The house was so quiet that I could hear pretty much anything happen in the house, even if it was in a different room. I I quickly tied my hair back into a messy ponytail, and exited my room.
I turned the knob to the front door, and to my surprise, it was Basil. The flower in his hair flinched in the wind, and I could tell he was nervous.
"Um..." I started.
"I know this is kind of awkward, but I just need to say something." Basil interrupted.
I stared at him in confusion. 'What could be so important that you had to walk all the way to my house for?' I thought.
"Come inside." I gestured. "You better make this quick though, I don't have all day."
"Yes, I'm well aware..." said Basil as he entered my house. I could tell he was surprised by the mess. Towers of boxes and trash habited the place, forgotten souvenirs scattered everywhere. My parents were never good at cleaning, so I practically lived in my bedroom.
We stood face to face for a second. "So, what is it?" I asked.
Basil looked at his shoes. "Polly told me something... and I thought you should know. In fact, after this I was planning on heading to Hero and Kel's house to tell them. But anyways..."
Basil paused, as if he was trying to recollect himself. I waited for him to finish.
"Well... Sunny is visiting Faraway for a few months." Basil said quickly.
I could feel my eyes widen, suddenly memories of Sunny flashed into my head like a movie.
'Sunny... is coming back... to Faraway? For a few months?!' I thought in panic. 'But why would he ever want or need to?'
Basil bit his lip nervously. "I'm not too certain why he is coming... but I pretty sure it has something to do with his mother. And it's pretty severe..."
I looked at Basil. "What do you mean by 'severe'?"
A worried expression grew on Basil's face. "Aubrey... I think Sunny's mom is in the hospital."
I turned around to face the wall, thinking about what Basil just said.
"Sunny's mom is in the hospital."
