So...our dance troupe went on tour in June. We're based in Utah, and every other year we go on tour for a weekend in St. George at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre and facilities.
2015 was a fantastic year to go, as we had recently completed our "Best of JMBS: Celebrating 20 Years" recital. All of the dances or songs or choreography had come from all of the previous recitals, dating all the way back to the 1995 spring showing in Julie's basement. The recital celebrated how far we've come, as we've performed in Peery's Egyptian Theater since about 2000.
Anyways, back to Tuacahn.
Everything was kinda like a dream state. The environment was less pressure than when we perform back home. All the teachers wanted us to just have fun out there.
For those of you who have never been to St. George or even to Southern Utah, it's a gorgeous place. The majesty of red rock never ceases to amaze me, and thw Tuacahn facilities are in a canyon of red rock. We danced on a stage that left red marks on our tights and shoes, but it was all worth it to have people watch us and to just perform and have a good time making our passion manifest.
All around, Tuacahn 2015 was great. We stayed at a nice hotel, we shopped at an awesome strip mall and got gorgeous dresses to wear to the theater performances, we ate fanfriggentabulous food, we performed for crowds of people, we saw two epicly awesome professional Tuacahn shows (in the which there were often people flying overhead or water flooding the stage or real horses running across the red rock background), we swam in the hotel pool, and we got to learn from some professional dancers who were in the shows we saw. (As an older dancer, I got to meet the guy who played the enchanted carpet in Beauty and the Beast. He helped teach us a dance from Newsies.)
Even though we were often burning up from heat in our Step in Time or Les Mis or Bollywood or Morning Dew costumes, traveling down to where the heat stays all the time was one of the best experiences I've ever had.
Tuacahn 2017, I have you in my sights!!!
