Once there was a poor farmer named Scias married with six children. Even with not enough, the man lived happily with his family in a little home. Harvest season had blessed them with fertilized soil growing plenty of crops. After harvesting the blessed crops, Scias promised his family wealth to come if they kept praying and please the goddess Demeter. And so they did for the whole harvest season. Scias gave money to his children, who spent on luxury items and tasty foods. On the last day of Harvest, Scias went to sell his crops. On the way back, the night became chilly and cold. Walking, Scias came across a crossroad. In the middle of the crossroad was a black dog so skinny you could see its ribs. The dog came up to Scias begging for food. Scias tried to shoo it away. When it didn't budge, Scias resulted in hitting the dog with his cane. The dog let out a cry. Suddenly black smoke rised from the ground along with a beautiful woman with silk black hair and piercing purple eyes.

"SCIAS" the ground rumbled as the voice boomed out.

Scias recognized the woman as no woman but as the goddess Hecate. he immediately kneeled, bowing to the goddess, "My lady."

"HOW DARE YOU HURT MY COMPANION"

"I'm sorry, my lady. I wasn't aware the dog was your companion."

"Her name is Hecuba. Is this how you treat starving creatures after being blessed with a good harvest?"

"No, my lady. Again I apologize my lady"

"For your offense and incredible selfishness, I curse you and your family to starve until they perish."

"No please. My lady please. Not my family. Curse me. Please leave my love and my children out of my poor choices."

"After years of impoverishment, the moment you get a taste of wealth you turn against those who are starving."

"No please my lady, I didn't mean to."

Scias tried to plead but Hecate had already disappeared along with her companion. As Scias walked back to his cabin, he wondered how he'd tell his family about the curse Hecate. When he got home, his wife and children waited patiently for Scias to begin eating supper.

"Duck and wine my love?" Scias saw the roasted animal at the head of the table.

"Yes we wanted to prepare you a special meal as a celebration and thanks to you. Who worked hard this season, bringing money and food to this table to feed his family" Scias' wife kissed on the cheek.

Scias gulped down as they began to eat.

"My loves, I need to tell you something"

"First I want to surprise you. Your sons went out and bought us a bigger and warmer home for the winter. We will begin to move tomorrow!"

"Oh well that's nice" Scias' face was drained of color.

"What is it that you wanted to tell us?"

"It's not important. Let's enjoy our meal"

After dinner and as they prepared for bed, Scias' wife asked him what was bothering him.

"Please my love forgive me. I have offended the goddess Hecate. She has cursed us." Scias fell to his knees.

"What?"

"I promise I will do anything to fix this."

"What did she curse us with?"

"She cursed us to starve but I promise I will fix this. We will not starve. We still have money from the harvest"
"We used that for the new cabin. It's okay, first we shall not tell the children. next we shall sell the new cabin for money and plan the rest of our food to last us longer."

They didn't tell the children and they remained unknowing. The next harvest the crops weren't growing, last harvest's money started to shorten and so had the available food. Scais grew worried and tried to please the goddess. nothing worked. As winter rolled around his wife and children grew sicker, he decided to see a sorceress towns away to ask for help.

When he arrived the sorceress sensed the curse and how heavy it was and told scias to leave, not wanting to make Hecate angry, and to spend time with his family because nothing can save them. Before leaving the shop, Scias grabbed a dark magic book that caught his eye. He read it and read about the giant who was opposed to Hecate named Clytius. He learned how to communicate with him and made a deal with the giant. After going to a cave and making the deal and gaining enough power and immortality to save his family, he went back to his home to tell his family the good news. When he arrived, he discovered his family perished from hunger. Devastated, Scias promised revenge to Hecate and all her descendents. He turned his family's corpses into shadows who serve him to help kill every descendent of Hecate.
