Darkness engulfed his senses as he tried to bring himself to consciousness.
He tried to open his eyes, but they seemed to have surrendered to the extreme pain that his body experienced. Each inch of his body stung as he tried to gain his senses and move himself.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

He mentally cursed when, even after several attempts, he couldn't make his body shift by even a millimeter.

Defeated, and tired of trying, he let the darkness engulf him as he lay unconscious. The faint sounds that he was able to hear earlier now faded and the night grew silent.

***

He jerked open his eyes abruptly, but the sudden encounter with bright light forced him to shut them close again. He scrunched his nose in irritation and again tried to open his eyes slowly, allowing his eyes to adjust to the increasing light rays.

A blurry vision of a white canvas appeared in front of his eyes. He blinked his eyes twice to clear his vision, only to realize it wasn't a canvas but a ceiling.

He tried to move his limbs, but it felt as if a ton of weight restricted his body from doing so. With great effort, he tilted his neck towards his right when faint beeping sound reached his ears.
A heart rate monitor came into his vision. Beside it stood a woman dressed in white who turned around and, looking at him, rushed out of the room.

How did I end up in a damn hospital?

He felt a sharp pain in his head, as he tried to remember the incidents of the previous night, but miserably failed.

In a few minutes, a doctor dashed inside, along with the same nurse and another one this time. One of the nurses checked on the saline while the other assisted the doctor as he checked upon his condition.

While the medical team did their duties he rotated his eyeballs trying to sync in the scenario around him. After few minutes his eyes felt droopy as tiredness started to hit him. Slowly his eyelids shut again, putting him into a deep slumber.

***

With great agility, he lifted his body to sit up straight. Sweat beads traveled down from his forehead to down, and his breathing rushed due to the efforts he took to wake up his sour body.

"You should be resting." Came a voice beside him. He noticed the same nurse standing beside his bed.

"I need to see the doctor right now," he whispered as his throat hurt.

"He will be here in two... "

"I said right now!" he roared, ignoring the burning sensation in his throat. The nurse gulped, and he breathed heavily in anger.

"It's a hospital. Please maintain the decorum!" The doctor said sternly as he walked towards him. Alongside stood an almost six feet tall uniformed man.

Why is a cop accompanying him?

"You were unconscious for almost three days. When you were brought here we had almost lost hope and were scared you would succumb to your injuries, but you're one stubborn soul!" The doctor smiled slightly at him.

"Why am I here? What happened? And my-my car!! She...Where is she?" he quizzed anxiously.

"First, may I know your name? We couldn't find any details about you as everything that gave information about your identity burned in that car crash. How you survived the fire was miraculous to us?"

"I... " his throat burned, but mustering up courage, he spoke, "I'm Vidyut Saxena."

"Where are you from?"

"Delhi,"

"Was there anyone with you in the car? "

The question raised a hint of panic in him. He looked at the two men in front of him with defeated eyes.

"Didn't you find anyone else around the car?" he questioned, and the cop nodded in negative.
"The only human figure there, was you. The car had a huge blast, and when we reached, it was still burning, and you were covered with blood and burn marks lying a few feet away. Was there anyone else with you?"

"Y-yes. She... She was there." he stuttered as a lump formed in his throat and his heart pierced at the worst scenario possible.

She was there with me. I remember us laughing joyously at her jokes.

"We found blood stain from the car to around the edge of the hill road and when the forensic department tested, it didn't match your blood type. It was B-ve."

"It's her blood group."

"And..." the officer seemed to struggle with his words as noticed Vidyut's moist eyes.

"And what officer?" he asked, slowly loosing his patience.

"We also found this at the extreme edge. Any person standing down could slip from that spot." The officer removed a plastic packet from his trouser with a blood stained platinum bracelet in it. It had the initials V and T written on it.

It didn't had to take him a second to realize whom it belonged to. "It's hers. I-I gifted it to her that morning."
His eyes welled up as the realisation hit him.
Blood stained bracelet, blood trail till the edge of the road, she had been severely injured. The bracelet at the edge.

She didn't survive. He lost her. She was gone. Gone for forever.

The thoughts slowly churned in his head as he felt panic rising through his senses, his body giving in to the emotional pain and his head spined like a tornado. The calls for him disappeared as all he could feel was silence, void and pain.

That was the last time he saw her, heard her, felt her!

If there was an accident and the cops only found him, the heavens might have called her.
She would have been long gone, and he couldn't even tell her for one last time how much he loved her. That she resided in his every breath and that her presence had made his lonely life livable.

If only God had given him a few more minutes to spend with her. Hug her and kiss her once more, had the heavens given him a prior warning. He would have loved her a little more, spoiled her a little more, and made her feel like the queen of this world.

This unexpected departure of her soul, leaving him alone to die every day, with the faint memories of their laughs and smiles together, hurted him more than death.

Life will be so incomplete without you, Trisha!

His heart cried with the realization that she was not coming back ever and the worst part was he had to live with the void.
