THERE'S BLOOD IN THE WATER

"HEY, SO– CAN I– CAN I TALK TO YOU REAL QUICK?"

Ruby looks up from her computer screen, eyes falling on Kendall as he walks into her office, hands in his pockets and a nervous look on his face. "Uh, yeah, sure. What's up?" She minimizes the tab she'd had open on her computer, pulling up a blank email as he nears her desk.

"So, there's... something," Kendall sits in one of the chairs on the other side of her desk, his knee immediately bouncing, giving way to the clear anxiety on his face. "Big. And– not. Great. For me. For us."

Ruby narrows her eyes, heading tilting slightly. "Right. Do you, maybe, want to elaborate?"

"Uh, yeah, just–" Kendall glances over his shoulder at the glass walls, and the glass door that he'd shut firmly behind him. It always stayed shut, Ruby didn't like to work with background noise, but Kendall needed to double check before he started talking about this stuff freely. "So, Gerri told me about this, uh– this loan. That Dad took out for the company."

"You mean the four billion dollar loan he took out and has never worked on repaying?"

Kendall's face falls, going through a myriad of emotions in under a second. "What, you– you know? You've known?"

"Well, yes, Kendall, my father helped build this place. Logan isn't stupid enough to take out a loan and not tell his partner about it."

"And your Dad just, what, told you about it?"

She gives him an odd look. "Yes. Of course he told me about it. As soon as I told him I wanted to start working here he told me about it, because he didn't want me to get on board with this place without knowing the truth about everything. Obviously I had some faith in us, considering I'm still here."

Kendall looks shocked at the thought of her father being open about this, considering his own wasn't, and had never even dropped a hint in regards to something like this. He was sort of expecting Ruby to be as blindsided as he was, that way he could bounce ideas off of her and hope for some support. But if she'd already known, at least for a few years, and the loan still hadn't been paid off, there was a good chance that she didn't know how to fix it. He didn't really know what to do with Ruby when she didn't have answers for his questions.

Clearing his throat, he looked at her, a degree of pleading in his dark eyes. "So, like, what do I do? How do I fix this? I mean, it can't break the day I step up that we owe four billion dollars in debt to a bank. We'd crumble."

Ruby hums in agreement, slowly nodding. "Yeah, I mean– it's not like we're doing great right now. Might as well just roll the headlines out and see what happens."
