ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR

WHEN THE FIRST OF THE HEADLINES ROLLED OUT, THE MAIN FOCUS WAS KENDALL.
The princess was stolen from his mighty tower and dropped on the frigid, frightening streets of his cozy, multi-million dollar townhouse on the East Side. It was a horror show.

When the second week of headlines rolled out, it was Ruby's name plastered everywhere.

'Carrington Heir Unjustly Fired from Waystar Royco?' 'Even the 1% gets wrongfully terminated!' 'Ruby Carrington Sits Down For Exclusive Interview: Addressing her recent termination from the company her father helped build, talks of the market and the state it's in today, the bleak future of Waystar, and why she's happy she got thrown overboard before it sank!'

Kendall's going through with his lawsuit. He's rightfully suing his father, and he urged Ruby to do the same, but she didn't have any desire to continue to connect her name to Logan Roy's again. She was no longer involved in Waystar Royco, and therefore no longer involved with Logan Roy. It was simple for her.

It wasn't that easy for Kendall. If it could be that simple with him ever, Ruby thinks their lives would be very different. After their initial mutual breakdowns about his father's insanity, Ruby had collected herself and started making her next moves. Kendall remained there, frozen from that day in the conference room. Woke up every morning– or afternoon– and looked in the mirror and told himself it wasn't fair, he deserved to win that vote and if his father wasn't such a maniacal fuck, he'd still be in that high-rise, looking down on everybody else, wearing a pair of CEO shoes that didn't fit quite right.

Ruby had only devoted a week to coddling Kendall before she gave up. It was obvious he wasn't listening to reason and she had things to do, so their time spent together in that initial week went from every waking moment, to just the late nights and early mornings she was creeping back into his penthouse and into his bed.

Kendall never asked what she was doing when she was gone all day. He never asked her what she was going to do now that she wasn't at Waystar anymore. He didn't care enough to ask about her because it would mean he would have to stop wallowing for just a second, and she didn't care enough to try and pull that out of him, because it didn't matter. Having Kendall's attention was not something she cherished, or wanted all that badly. They had the time they had, and it was fine for both of them. It was the only thing they knew how to care about anymore. Business.

So Ruby let Kendall be, and she spent her days avoiding her own home and having her staff message her when Stewy was out so she could go grab more things to keep in between her other various properties and Kendall's. She hadn't spoken to him since the vote, but not for a lack of effort on his part.
