THE INTERVIEW
──────
"JOINING ME FOR AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW IS FINANCIAL HEIRESS RUBY CARRINGTON-HOSSEINI III," The woman's voice takes on a professional tone, typical of anchors and journalists alike. Ruby's father used to tell her that journalists are special and they're chosen from a young age to become the spokespeople of the world. She was seven at the time, and she'd been starting to attend interviews with her father so she'd been curious. Even though she knows better now, it's something that sticks with her in every interview she does now.
She thinks– she hopes, that her father is proud of what she's doing. She hopes he knows it's for the better, despite the fact that she's not working for the company he helped build anymore.
"Ruby, it's been a month since your somewhat historic firing happened at Waystar-Royco and for the most part, you've been radio silent. Is there any specific reason why?"
Though she's not before the interviewer in person, her presence through the camera feedback isn't minimized in any way. Ruby sits up straight, not a hair out of place with the bland desert of Austerlitz acting as a background.
"There's a few, I suppose," She smiles softly, tilting her head. "But mostly it's because I never stopped working. As soon as I left that building I shifted gears and started focusing on bigger, better things."
"And have you found those things?"
"Oh, absolutely, Raina," Ruby nodded, tucking her hair behind her ears. "It's my best career move yet."
Raina's brows raise, like she wasn't expecting such a cocksure answer from her, but Ruby doesn't falter or rephrase. Backtracking would make her look weak. Rephrasing would make her a liar. She was neither of those things.
Happily pulling on the thread Ruby's just exposed, she shifts slightly, a curious smile on her lips. "Would you care to explain to us just what that career move is? I think everyone's been dying to see what you've cooked up in this past month."
Ruby sighs, silently bracing herself as she intertwines her fingers in her lap out of sight from the camera. "My partner and I have begun investing in a series of restaurants and local businesses in the city, as well as a few radio stations and whatnot. We've cast a broad network of things that we want to put our money into, and even just a month in we're already seeing a vast return of that wealth. We've instilled confidence and security into these businesses, and when you put trust like that into things, you're bound to see great results."
"Your partner– is it your longtime friend Kendall Roy? He was terminated as well, and we coincidentally haven't seen much of him in the financial world since then, either."
