EMMA

I woke up covered in sweat. It was a sweaty day, no no no. But my electricity had given up on me too. I flickered the light switched, rather violently, yes definitely given up.

I made my way to the balcony,
"Mrs Wilson! Do you have electricity in your apartment?" I yelled.
"Yes, my dear. Why, what has happened?" she yelled.
"oh nothing, have a nice day now," I said, leaving the balcony, not caring for an answer.

I unplugged my phone, to see my phone was still on 5% like last night. I glanced at the button. To discover it wasn't even switched on.
"Fuck. Fuck, FUCK" I chanted.

I saw a missed call, who fired me now?

I called the unknown number,
"Hello?" the low voice answered at the first ring.

"Hi, who is this?" I asked, fetching for clothes, to wear today.
"Emma? Emma king?" the man asked in a surprised voice,
"Yes, this is she. Who is this?" I asked.

"Emma, its timothy, its me," He said,
I froze. removing the phone from my ear. And sitting back down on the bed. I took deep breaths before answering.

"Did I not make myself clear, when I said, never call me again?" I asked,
"Emma please," He said,
"Shut up," I said, my nose started to sting, my eyes started gaining moisture, and my leg started shaking violently again.

"Emma, Joseph is out of prison," he informed,
"I do not care one bit about him," I said, keeping my hand on my leg tightly to make it stop shaking,

"Emma, please. Please, come to Layla's. We need you there. I need you there," He said, the last part slowly. My hands were starting to shake now, and tears were threatening to fall. I kept the phone aside.

Calm down, calm down, Emma. It's nothing, it's just Timothy. You can control this, take deep breaths. I repeated in my mind. My leg slowly rested, I sighed and picked up the phone again.

"Are you there?" he was already saying.
"Yes, I am. Timothy listen to me, I do not care about some penniless, dimwit, criminal. So I won't be coming, you shouldn't go too," I said,

I heard a loud bang on the other side, causing me to flinch,
"DAMMIT, LADY. YOU PROMISED. You promised us all"
"PROMISES ARE JUST WORDS MEANT TO BE BROKEN"
"Emma, stop bullshitting me and come. put this all behind, it's been 8 years,"

And that's when my phone gave up on me too.

I screamed, it took everything in me not to throw that phone into a wall. But this was the last thing I could afford, I was extremely behind my rent, and I couldn't even afford proper electricity anymore.

Thinking of all this, going there didn't look like my worst resort. But I shouldn't. I just couldn't,

I don't have time for this as I have three jobs to attend.

I jumped into my bed, The moonlight was falling through my window right onto me. And all I could think about was Timothy's voice, and the absolute heat there was in the room

Do you know sometimes you think you've moved on completely over someone but in reality you and they just have distance, and when that distance is no more? The feelings come back.

God, I hated him.
